BWXT Medical Ltd. provides its customers, who conduct life-saving medical procedures for patients around the world, the benefit of decades of experience in the development, manufacturing, packaging and delivery of medical isotopes and radiopharmaceuticals. Headquartered in Kanata, Ontario, BWXT Medical Ltd. employs over 300 highly-skilled people in Kanata and Vancouver, British Columbia. BWXT Medical Ltd. is part of the BWXT nuclear power segment (NPG) of BWX Technologies, Inc.

Position: Development Technician
Location of Work: On-site, 4004 Wesbrook Mall, Vancouver
Status: Full-time, 37.5 hours/week.

Job Summary

Performs troubleshooting, custom maintenance and repair, project activities and research for technical support and development as directed. Designs and carries out tests and experiments. Commissions new facilities and equipment, drafts procedures, and recommends process and product improvements.

Work Performed
  • Troubleshoots equipment and facilities. Performs custom maintenance and repairs, and provides assessment of products and components as directed. Runs processes when required.
  • Co-ordinates and/or performs work activities associated with technical support and development projects as required.
  • From established concepts, procures, assembles and runs equipment for tests, experiments, and processes. Gathers data for analysis and reports results. Derives conclusions and formulates recommendations.
  • Commission new facilities and equipment, and assists in commissioning new processes and products.
  • Drafts procedures and assists in training of production staff.
  • Reviews process or product designs and procedures and recommends improvements.
  • Provides technical advice with prior approval.
  • Performs technical research and development.
  • Initiates routine stores requisitions, internal work orders, and purchase orders for approval.
  • Performs technical work on consulting jobs as required.
EDUCATION And EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
  • Normally, BSc or Technologist Diploma (3 years) in an appropriate technical discipline plus 3-4 years of relevant technical experience.
KNOWLEDGE And ABILITIES
  • Must be familiar with Company policies and procedures.
  • Must be able to design and build processes or products and operating equipment from schematics.
  • Must be able to read and comprehend drawings, schematics, specifications and technical literature.
  • Must be resourceful, creative and objective.
  • Must have knowledge sufficient to run and troubleshoot at least one current process or operational activity of similar complexity within functional responsibility area.
  • General knowledge of applicable procedures, process equipment and products is required.
  • Must be knowledgeable about radiation and industrial hazards and the techniques to reduce these hazards.
RECOMMENDATIONS And DECISIONS
  • Makes technical decisions in the performance of routine assignment.
  • Makes recommendations for the solution of problems affecting the objectives of projects and processes, including recommendations on equipment acquisition and maintenance.
Working Conditions
  • Works in laboratory and production environment, subject to laboratory and industrial safety and health hazards.
  • May be required to work overtime.
  • Occasional travel may be required.
  • Classed as a Nuclear Energy Worker, frequently working with radioactive materials and processes.
