Overview

Job Title: Software Development Lead

Location: The Montreal office is located near Peel metro station

Job Type: Full-Time. Presence at the office is required 2 days a week.

The Goal

As the Development Lead, you will oversee the Operator / Delivery Team responsible for integrating new operators, delivering customisations, and ensuring regulatory, infrastructure, and operational needs are met. You’ll manage engineers and QA, provide technical leadership, and collaborate closely with Product Owners, Business Analysts, and the Principal Engineer to deliver scalable, compliant, and customer-centric solutions. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including Product Owners, QA and Software Architects to ensure high-quality, reliable, and secure application development while leveraging the latest technologies to solve complex challenges in a cloud-based environment.

We are looking for someone with a willingness and attitude to learn new skills, a passion for improving Infrastructure as Code and adopting best practices, and the agility to think and operate like a start-up, all while enjoying the stability and resources of an established company.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and mentor a cross-functional team of software engineers and QA.
  • Own the delivery of operator integrations, documentation, and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with Product Owners, Business Analysts, and Operators to refine requirements into actionable technical work.
  • Support infrastructure improvements in AWS (HA, DR, monitoring, automation).
  • Drive defect resolution, change requests, and “quick win” delivery.
  • Ensure coding standards, design reviews, and best practices are upheld.
  • Coordinate with the Principal Engineer to ensure alignment with architecture, scalability, and well-architected principles.
The Player
Must-Have Skills
  • Strong technical leadership with proven experience in leading software delivery teams.
  • Excellent communication (technical and non-technical, customer-facing).
  • Deep experience with AWS infrastructure (CloudWatch, Datadog, Terraform familiarity).
  • Analytical skills with a delivery mindset.
  • Terraform / Infrastructure as Code skills.
  • Knowledge of SRE principles (for HA, DR, monitoring projects).
Nice-to-Have Skills
  • Postgres, Lambda, React, front-end development exposure.
  • Experience with regulated environments or operator-specific compliance.
English

Fluent English is required for this role, as successful candidates will work closely with colleagues across OpenBet. OpenBet has offices in multiple countries across the world, and English is used as the common language across these locations.
