Job summary

Magellan Aerospace Haley Division in Ontario is seeking a Development Engineering Technician to support new product development, process optimization, and technical troubleshooting in the sand‑casting foundry, collaborating with engineering, tooling and production to meet dimensional and quality standards.

The ideal candidate has a college diploma in Manufacturing Engineering Technology and at least two years’ experience in manufacturing, aerospace or foundry operations, plus CAD proficiency

Qualifications

  • College diploma in Manufacturing Engineering Technology or related field.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in manufacturing, aerospace, or foundry operations.
  • Experience with CAD (SolidWorks/AutoCAD) and reading engineering drawings.
  • Knowledge of PFMEA and Control Plans.

Responsibilities

  • Support tooling design revisions with patternmakers and engineers.
  • Run process trials for new or modified castings and document results.
  • Perform dimensional inspections using CMM, calipers, and gauges.
  • Analyze casting defects and assist root‑cause investigations.
  • Prepare technical reports, test results, and corrective actions.
  • Maintain process documentation including work instructions and logs.
  • Support continuous improvement projects to improve yield and reduce scrap.

Position Overview

The Development Engineering Technician supports new product development, process optimization, and technical troubleshooting within the sand‑casting foundry. This role collaborates closely with engineering, tooling, and production teams to ensure castings meet dimensional, metallurgical, and quality standards.

Compensation

$ 65, 000 to $75,000 per year.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support tooling design and revisions in collaboration with patternmakers and engineers.
  • Conduct process trials for new or modified castings, documenting results and recommending improvements.
  • Perform dimensional inspections using CMM, calipers, gauges, and other measurement tools.
  • Analyze casting defects and assist in root‑cause investigations.
  • Prepare technical reports summarizing findings, test results, and corrective actions.
  • Maintain process documentation including work instructions, development logs, and quality records.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to yield, scrap reduction, and process stability.
Education Requirements
  • College diploma in Manufacturing Engineering Technician/Technologist or related field
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in manufacturing, aerospace, or foundry operations
Experience, Knowledge And Skills Required
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and quality tools
  • Experience in metal casting (sand casting preferred).
  • Proficiency with CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar).
  • Experience with Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA), Control Plans, and basic defect analysis
  • Proficiency with MS Office or equivalent
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications
  • Strong communication, problem‑solving, and teamwork skills
  • Works independently with minimal supervision
  • Maintains professionalism, accountability, and integrity
  • Comfortable in both office and plant‑floor environments
  • Able to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic setting
Security Requirements
  • We conduct a criminal Record Check on all new hires
  • We conduct a Government Controlled Goods Program (CGP) Check on all new hires; must be able to give 3 references to help verify your identity
Work Conditions
  • Standard hours: 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday to Friday, with occasional overtime as required.
  • Potential for future afternoon‑shift coverage based on business needs.
  • CSA‑approved footwear, safety glasses, ear protection, and other PPE required.
