Job summary

Magellan Aerospace Corporation in Ottawa/Haley (Ontario) is seeking an Development Engineering Technician to support new product development, process optimization and technical troubleshooting within the sand-casting foundry. You will collaborate with engineering, tooling and production to ensure castings meet dimensional and quality standards.

Qualifications

  • College diploma in Manufacturing Engineering Technician/Technologist or related field.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in manufacturing, aerospace, or foundry operations.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and quality tools.
  • Experience in metal casting (sand casting preferred).
  • Proficiency with CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar).
  • Experience with PFMEA, Control Plans, and basic defect analysis.
  • Proficiency with MS Office or equivalent.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and teamwork skills.
  • Works independently with minimal supervision.
  • Maintains professionalism, accountability, and integrity.
  • Comfortable in both office and plant-floor environments.
  • Able to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic setting.

Responsibilities

  • Support tooling design and revisions in collaboration with patternmakers and engineers.
  • Conduct process trials for new or modified castings, documenting results and recommending improvements.
  • Perform dimensional inspections using CMM, calipers, gauges, and other measurement tools.
  • Analyze casting defects and assist in root-cause investigations.
  • Prepare technical reports summarizing findings, test results, and corrective actions.
  • Maintain process documentation including work instructions, development logs, and quality records.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to yield, scrap reduction, and process stability.

Position Overview

The Development Engineering Technician supports new product development, process optimization, and technical troubleshooting within the sand‑casting foundry. This role collaborates closely with engineering, tooling, and production teams to ensure castings meet dimensional, metallurgical, and quality standards.

Compensation: $ 65, 000 to $75,000 per year.
Vacancy Reason: Replacement Full-time Permanent
Key Responsibilities
  • Support tooling design and revisions in collaboration with patternmakers and engineers.
  • Conduct process trials for new or modified castings, documenting results and recommending improvements.
  • Perform dimensional inspections using CMM, calipers, gauges, and other measurement tools.

  • Proficiency with MS Office or equivalent

  • Strong communication, problem‑solving, and teamwork skills
  • Works independently with minimal supervision
  • Maintains professionalism, accountability, and integrity
  • Comfortable in both office and plant‑floor environments

Security Requirements:
  • We conduct a criminal Record Check on all new hires
  • We conduct a Government Controlled Goods Program (CGP) Check on all new hires; must be able to give 3 references to help verify your identity
Work Conditions:
  • Standard hours: 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday to Friday, with occasional overtime as required.
  • Potential for future afternoon‑shift coverage based on business needs.
  • CSA‑approved footwear, safety glasses, ear protection, and other PPE required.
