Job summary

The Ontario Public Service is seeking a dedicated cleaner for the Southwest Detention Centre. The role involves operating heavy cleaning equipment and supervising inmate helpers to perform daily cleaning tasks, ensuring halls, offices and surfaces are clean and safe within the facility.

You will maintain records, follow security procedures, and uphold infection prevention and workplace health and safety standards, including WHMIS. Flexibility and attention to detail are essential.

Qualifications

• Extensive knowledge of cleaning methods and use of industrial equipment.
• Knowledge of infection prevention and control practices.
• Understanding of WHMIS and Occupational Health and Safety Act.
• Ability to follow security policies and ensure area safety.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy-duty cleaning equipment and platform lifts.
• Daily supervision of inmate helpers/workers for cleaning tasks.
• Clean premises: mop, vacuum, dust offices, wash woodwork/tiles.
• Separate recyclables and unload supplies from trucks.
• Maintain records and request replacement supplies.
