We are seeking an enthusiastic, talented, and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Detailer Trainee.

Responsibilities include detailing simple projects under supervision and providing concise, accurate, and complete descriptions of reinforcing steel, bar supports, mesh wire, and related products for fabrication, delivery, installation, and invoicing in the most efficient manner possible.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate conduct consistent with Nucor Rebar Fabrication’s vision and values.
  • Develop working knowledge of AutoCAD and Nucor Rebar Fabrication’s detailing system (RebarCAD).
  • Gain basic knowledge of the reinforcing bar industry, referencing materials such as CRSI and ACI.
  • Review and verify contract documents (plans, addenda, specs) against proposals/estimates.
  • Detail simple projects with minimal assistance, including foundations, walls, footings, piers, slabs, stairs, retaining walls, etc.
  • Submit placing drawings for approval, ensuring compliance with ACI 318, CRSI, RSIC, quality assurance standards, and project requirements.
  • Process change orders to maximize returns for the branch.
  • Maintain all deliveries necessary for fabrication.
  • Communicate with customers, placers, and architects/engineers regarding project questions; submit RFIs as needed.
  • Coordinate with the Detailing Manager to pre-order specialty items to meet construction schedules.
  • Participate in weekly meetings on safety, ideas, workload, issues, and project updates.
  • Monitor and compare project detailed weight progression against contract weight.
  • Inform customers of changes in time or materials, completing change order forms as necessary.
  • Review claims of shortages or errors.
  • Ensure proper coding of all bar lists.
  • Follow projects from estimate through detailing, fabrication, and installation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by your supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Vocational certificate in CAD design/drafting from an accredited institution or current enrollment.
  • At least six months of experience with AutoCAD and Windows-based software.
  • Ability to read architectural and engineering blueprints.
  • Teamwork skills and problem-solving aptitude.
  • Organized and detail-oriented.
  • Effective time management and prioritization skills.
  • Strong verbal and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Two-year technical diploma from an accredited institution.
  • Knowledge and experience in construction and concrete-related work.
  • Basic understanding of construction or civil technology.
  • Experience in installation and fabrication of reinforcing steel.
  • Bilingual in French and English is an asset.
