Job summary

Linamar Corporation, a Canadian diversified global manufacturing company, is seeking a Junior Desktop and System Support Technician to help maintain the integrity of the OS server environment, install upgrades, and handle workstation setup.

You will support local MRP/ERP and QA equipment, manage backups and inventories, and coordinate with Corporate IT to ensure SLA compliance. Linamar offers career growth and community initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Post-Secondary Education in Computer Science preferred.
  • MCP is an asset.
  • ITIL/ITSM knowledge preferred.
  • Windows Desktop OS, Office, Dell hardware and networking basics.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain OS server environment and install system software upgrades, plan and schedule.
  • Perform workstation and server administration setup and space planning.
  • Manage tape libraries, backups and data recoveries.
  • Maintain inventories of software and hardware, licenses.
  • Setup and install network attached equipment.
  • Provide first-line IT support at the facility and coordinate with users.

Desktop and System Support Technician, Junior

The Desktop and System Support Technician, Junior position will be responsible for maintaining the integrity of the operating system server environment and installing system software upgrades including planning and scheduling, testing and coordination. Primarily accountable for performing workstation and server administration set up while coordinating disk space planning and management. In addition, maintain growth statistics, space forecasts, tape libraries, software and hardware inventories. Perform data backups and recoveries and maintain tape libraries, and software and hardware inventories.

Performance Expectations
  • Complete assignments from the Service Desk efficiently and effectively within assigned priority to meet SLA.
  • Troubleshoot and solve office desktop problems.
  • Act as the face of IT at designated facility and route issues.
  • Prepare regular and special reports and analyze within prescribed guidelines.
  • Contact customers, suppliers, or organization employees outside the immediate work area to exchange information.
  • Inform Corporate IT management of any issues concerning requests to perform tasks outside of this job description.
  • Purchase software and hardware for designated facility according to standards and IT purchasing procedures.
  • Ensure licensed software is used in facility and the information is maintained in the licensing database.
  • Setup and install all network attached equipment at facility.
  • Maintain software and hardware on desktops at facility including Office Automation software, Anti-Virus, PC management software as per Desktop Setup Checklist.
  • Support unique systems such as local MRP/ERP, PM system, Time and Attendance System, QA equipment, door controllers, buzzers, and other software or hardware.
  • Administer local phone system (including paging, voice mail, moves-adds-changes).
  • Prepare, monitor and adjust work schedules and evaluate data on user support services provided.
  • Ability to evaluate information technology needs and users' software needs.
Credentials
  • Post-Secondary Education in Computer Science is preferred.
  • Current MCP considered an asset.
  • ITIL and ITSM knowledge is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Windows Desktop OS, Microsoft Office, Dell Desktop and Notebook hardware and Networking basics.
  • Working knowledge of data communications troubleshooting.
  • Ability to read and understand equipment, policy and procedure manuals.
