YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
The Structural / Civil Designer serves as a subject matter expert and design lead responsible for developing and supporting structural designs for KSPC. The role involves collaborating with Engineering, Production, and Project teams to create detailed design solutions, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and supporting project execution. The designer manages third-party design resources, overseeing external contractors and consultants to ensure alignment with company standards, project requirements, and regulatory guidelines. Additionally, the role entails coordinating between internal teams and external technical resources, reviewing third-party designs, and providing technical oversight to ensure seamless project execution. The Structural / Civil Designer also plays a key role in maintaining and improving infrastructure by producing accurate drawings, assisting with design reviews, and supporting standardized design and maintenance practices for structural assets.
- Lead structural design reviews with internal stakeholders and external engineering firms to ensure constructability, compliance with KSPC standards, and cost-effectiveness.
- Champion standardization and continuous improvement of structural detailing, drafting libraries, and drawing quality.
- Drive technical alignment across external engineering partners to ensure clarity in scope and minimize rework.
- Mentor junior designers or drafters and support knowledge transfer across the team.
- Interface with Project Engineering teams to support structural scope development and evaluation of third-party bids.
- Conduct constructability, maintainability, and operability reviews based on site experience and field input.
- Develop and prepare detailed structural steel and concrete designs and drawings using AutoCAD, AVEVA E3D, or other relevant software.
- Work closely with engineers and project teams to create structural layouts, models, and technical documentation.
- Review and interpret engineering specifications, design standards, and project requirements.
- Ensure all designs comply with applicable building codes, mining safety regulations, and KSPC internal standards.
- Coordinate with internal teams and external consultants to ensure design accuracy and project alignment.
- Manage third-party design resources by reviewing deliverables, providing feedback, and enforcing compliance with project objectives and quality expectations.
- Assist with structural assessments, inspections, and design modifications for existing infrastructure, integrating findings into updated drawings and standards.
- Support the management-of-change (MOC) process by delivering timely structural design solutions for maintenance and brownfield project work.
- Participate in multidiscipline design reviews and provide recommendations for safety, reliability, and cost optimization.
- Perform detailed drafting and design tasks across multiple disciplines when required to ensure cohesive, clash-free brownfield integration.
- Conduct periodic site visits to verify existing conditions, validate designs, engage stakeholders, and document field findings for continuous improvement.
YOUR PROFILE

- Diploma or technical program in CAD/CAM Engineering Technology, Engineering Design and Drafting Technology, or a related field.
- 10+ years of progressive experience in structural/civil design in heavy industrial or mining environments (potash preferred).
- Advanced knowledge of Canadian building codes (NBC, CSA S16, A23.3) and structural detailing standards.
- Proficiency in AVEVA E3D, Autodesk Civil 3D, Revit, Plant 3D, Navisworks, and related modeling software.
- Experience reviewing and managing deliverables from EPCs, consultants, or third-party design service providers.
- Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to lead design reviews, influence external stakeholders, and uphold owner engineering interests.
