General Description of the Role:

As a core member of our interdisciplinary team, you’ll be responsible for translating conceptual ideas into manufacturable products through detailed design exploration, iterative prototyping, material research, and close collaboration with mechanical, optical, and manufacturing engineering teams. Your designs will respond to complex spatial, functional, and aesthetic requirements, contributing to the creation of

high-performance luminaires and integrated architectural systems that push the boundaries of contemporary design.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the conceptualization and development of new product families and enhancements to existing offerings, ensuring alignment with Axis’ design philosophy and market needs.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with mechanical, electronic, and optical engineering teams as well as purchasing, marketing, and production departments to bring design concepts to production reality.
  • Work closely with product managers to develop comprehensive product briefs, outlining design intent, performance goals, and production feasibility criteria.
  • Create detailed3D models, assemblies, and presentation visuals using tools such as SolidWorks, Adobe Creative Suite, and Microsoft Office, supporting both internal reviews and client-facing communication.
  • Generate technical drawings, part specifications, and complete bills of materials (BOM) that sup- port seamless transition from prototype to manufacturing.
  • Build physical prototypes, mockups, or samples either in-house or through external vendors,

ensuring iterative refinement and functional testing.

  • Conduct research into new materials, fabrication processes, and emerging design trends, ensuring innovation and relevance in all deliverables.
  • Coordinate with internal teams to review cost implications, manufacturing constraints, and

assembly processes, adjusting designs as needed to optimize production efficiency.

  • Participate in client meetings and field visits, occasionally traveling to understand project contexts,

gather insights, and refine design responses.

  • Deliver compelling design proposals and concept presentations to senior leadership and stakeholders, articulating design rationale and product vision.
  • Support strategic product planning initiatives, identifying unmet market needs and contributing to the formulation of new product strategies with management.
  • Contribute to competitive benchmarking and design validation, supporting early-stage research

and photometric testing to assess fixture performance and efficacy.

  • Maintain ownership of project documentation, including technical drawings, part specifications,

and vendor coordination notes.

  • Develop and track project timelines, estimating resource needs and adjusting deliverables to meet key milestones and deadlines.
  • Lead weekly project reviews, maintaining alignment with internal teams and adjusting priorities based on project status and evolving requirements.
  • Support marketing strategy development in collaboration with senior management, providing de- sign insight and visual materials to shape product positioning and promotion.

Education:

  • Degree in Industrial Design

Experience:

  • 1-5 years of work-related experience.

Skills:

  • Skilled in 3D/2D design.
  • Knowledge of SolidWorks or equivalent 3D parametric software.
  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop).
  • Knowledge of Keyshot or other rendering software's

Qualifications:

  • Imaginative and persistent in communicating their ideas about new product design.
  • Good sense of balance and proportion.
  • Strong organizational and time-management and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team.
  • Understanding of materials and manufacturing processes.
  • Excellent communication skills (Bilingual French and English*)

* English is essential to communicate, support and provide services to individuals, employees or partners who do not speak French, particularly when they are outside the province of Quebec.
