Role Description:

  • Work within a team of Engineers/Design Specialists in the development of new products, including all steps within a formal product development process.
  • Apply scientific/engineering principles in the design of machines.
  • Create system-level concept designs in various levels of detail, including function block diagrams, CAD layouts, and functional decomposition.
  • Size and select components (e.g., motors, sensors, bearings, gearboxes, pneumatic and hydraulic components) as well as material selection and application of design standards.
  • Optimize design based on manufacturing processes (DFM), assembly, and test.
  • Perform calculations and analysis (structural FEA, thermal, dynamics, tolerance stack-up, etc.).
  • Create detailed drawings and apply GD&T and tolerance stack-up analysis.
  • Modify and maintain Husky design standards.
  • Responsible for detail verification using knowledge of design standards.
  • Create design documents and validation plans.
  • Contribute to and verify engineering documentation.
  • Provide leadership, mentoring, and training to team members within their area of primary expertise.
  • Lead and contribute to design reviews and brainstorming sessions.
  • Participate in or lead continuous improvement activities.
  • Verify all concept and systems-level process steps of the Product Development process and Product Release process are followed.
  • Drive the product development process leveraging team collaboration.
  • Design risk mitigation including participation or facilitation of FMEA.
  • Champion product compliance to regulatory requirements.
  • Cross-discipline interaction and communication including cross-discipline inputs - Analysis, Electrical, Software, Fluid Power, Metallurgy, Manufacturing, Validation/Test.
  • Represent Husky technically in front of customers for startup support and troubleshooting.

Qualifications:

  • 5-10 years of design execution experience in a related industry preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and strong presentation skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of product, market, and customer requirements.
  • Expert in modeling and detailing techniques.
  • Expert in calculating design parameters and applying engineering principles to design.
  • Strong understanding of stress analysis techniques, defining inputs and interpreting outputs.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills for maximum efficiency.
  • Illustrates attention to detail when completing tasks.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Strong creativity and innovation skills.
  • Creative ability to generate concept designs and select optimal concepts.
  • Strong sense of ownership.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing and assembly processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both autonomously and as part of a highly cohesive team.
  • Experience working with or designing large automated machinery is an asset (robots, presses, automatic packaging lines, CNC machinery, steel mills, etc.).
  • Experience selecting and sizing various components (e.g., gearboxes, bearings, belts, seals, servo motors, bushings, pneumatic and hydraulics, etc.).
  • Well-rounded – hands-on mechanical ability and passion for interests and hobbies outside of work.
