Job description

DESIGNATED EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATORS - SUPPLY POSITIONS

This posting is intended for external applicants. Successful applicants will be added to the SMCDSB's shortlist of recommended DECE employees for permanent and supply positions.

Position Type: 10-month per year position

Location: in 42 Elementary Schools

Hours: Up to 7 hours per day, Monday to Friday, between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

Salary: Supply DECE Rate: $25.07/Hour

Job Summary:

Reporting to the Principal, the Designated Early Childhood Educator partners with the classroom teacher to plan and implement a full-day early learning program that supports faith initiatives within a Catholic classroom setting. The role includes providing supervision and age-appropriate Catholic programming for groups of students.

Required Qualifications:

  • A two-year Early Childhood Education Diploma, with proof of registration and good standing with The College of Early Childhood Educators (photocopy of registration certificate required)
  • Minimum of six months childcare experience in a childcare or educational setting
  • Current CPR and First Aid Certificates (photocopies required)

Skills & Competencies:

  • Knowledge of Ministry of Education full-day early learning program and related legislation; knowledge of SMCDSB policies and procedures
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Effective communication skills with children, parents, staff, and the public
  • Understanding of confidentiality
  • Classroom management skills and ability to handle stressful and emergency situations
  • Experience in designing, planning, and implementing age-appropriate Catholic programs
  • Basic computer skills, strong organization and time management skills
  • Physical ability to stand, walk, lift up to 20kg, and assist children physically
