DESIGNATED EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATORS - SUPPLY POSITIONS
This posting is intended for external applicants. Applicants who are successful through this interview process will be added to the SMCDSB's shortlist of recommended DECE employees to be considered for permanent and supply DECE positions.
Position Type: 10 month per year position
Location: in 42 of our Elementary Schools
Hours: Up to 7 hours per day Monday to Friday between the hours of 8:00 a.m and 5:00 p.m.
Salary: Supply DECE Rate: $25.07/Hour
Job Summary
Reporting to the Principal, the Designated Early Childhood Educator will partner with the Catholic classroom teacher to plan and implement a full day early learning program supporting faith initiatives within a Catholic classroom setting and provide supervision and age appropriate Catholic programming for groups of students.
Required Qualifications:
  1. A two-year Early Childhood Education Diploma and proof of registration and good standing with The College of Early Childhood Educators (photocopy of registration certificate required)
  2. Minimum of six months childcare experience in a childcare or educational setting
  3. Current CPR and First Aid Certificate (photocopy of certificates required)
Skills & Competencies:
  1. Knowledge of Ministry of Education full day early learning program and related legislation; knowledge of SMCDSB related policies and procedures.
  2. Proven ability, experience and skill in working as a member of a team.
  3. Proven ability to communicate effectively and in a sensitive, courteous manner with children, parents, staff and the general public.
  4. Understanding of commitment to confidentiality.
  5. Proven ability to deal with classroom management, stressful and emergency situations.
  6. Demonstrated experience in successfully designing, planning and implementing age appropriate Catholic programs.
  7. Basic computer skills, strong organization and time management skills and ability to meet deadlines.
  8. Ability to stand/walk for extended periods and move/carry equipment for program, and must be able to physically assist children as required (e.g. lifting 20kg and repetitive bending).
Application Process:
SMCDSB uses Apply to Education to recruit permanent and supply Designated Early Childhood Educators. Complete applications must include the following and must be uploaded into your Apply to Education application in order for your application to be considered complete:
  • Cover letter;
  • Current resume;
  • ECE Diploma awarded by an accredited post-secondary institution;
  • Complete Faith Requirements for Educator Candidates:
  • Option 1: Educator Faith Testimony; and Roman Catholic Pastoral Reference Form or Pastoral Reference letter OR
  • Option 2: Educator Faith Testimony; Roman Catholic Baptismal Certificate; and Personal Letter of Faith
  • Proof of registration in the College of Early Childhood Educators.
Board Interviews will be conducted on a continuing basis.
Incomplete packages will not be considered. A Pastoral Letter of Reference from a Catholic priest must be included for an application package to be considered complete.
