Job summary

A leading education institution is seeking a Designated Early Childhood Educator for a temporary full-time position at Pinecrest Public School. The role involves collaborating with teachers to facilitate learning activities and assess student development in accordance with the Full-Day Early Learning-Kindergarten Program. This position will start on August 28, 2025, and will last until June 25, 2026, or the return of the absent employee.

Qualifications

  • Registered with the College of Early Childhood Educators is mandatory.
  • Understanding of the Full-Day Early Learning-Kindergarten Program is required.

Designated Early Childhood Educator - Temporary

Location: Pinecrest Public School

Start date: August 28, 2025 (temporary position until June 25, 2026 or return of absent employee)

Vacancy Details: 1.0 (full-time, 35 hours/week)

Responsibilities

The DECE will:

  • Collaborate with the classroom teacher and principal to plan and implement developmentally appropriate activities that reflect the Full-Day Early Learning-Kindergarten Program
  • Co-facilitate play-based activities that allow students to demonstrate learning related to the four frames of the Full-Day Early Learning-Kindergarten Program
  • Effectively and efficiently observe and document student learning using a variety of tools and techniques to assist the educator in the assessment of the development of students
  • Collaborate with the classroom teacher to promote and maintain a healthy physical, emotional and social learning environment
  • Assume other duties/responsibilities specifically related to the functions of children and the effective delivery of the Early Learning Curriculum as determined by the Principal and the Superintendent of Education

  • Thorough understanding of the Ministry of Educations Full-Day Early Learning-Kindergarten Program
  • Thorough understanding of the developmental continuum for this age group
  • Demonstrated appropriate behaviour management techniques with individuals, small and large groups
  • Demonstrated positive interpersonal skills in working with students, teachers, principals, and families
  • Demonstrated professional communication skills
  • Demonstrated initiative, positive thinking, critical thinking, and sound decision-making skills

Salary as per the current OSSTF-DECE collective agreement
