The Great Bear project is a development-stage asset located in the renowned and prolific Red Lake mining district, representing one of the most exciting recent gold discoveries globally. The project has excellent potential to become a top-tier deposit supporting a large, long-life mine complex. Kinross’s comprehensive exploration and development program aims to support the vision of a high-quality, high-grade open-pit mine and a larger, long-term underground mine.

This role will primarily support the Great Bear project, focusing on managing and coordinating with engineering firms to develop detailed engineering designs. The candidate should have basic knowledge across disciplines such as civil, structural, mechanical, piping, and processing plant flowsheets and P&IDs, to modify them under the supervision of the Kinross engineering manager. The role also involves preparing presentations and reports for the project, requiring proficiency in design software, excellent interpersonal skills, and strong communication abilities.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Prepare conceptual designs and drawings for the Great Bear Project.
  2. Review CAD drawings from consultants.
  3. Ensure consultants adhere to Kinross’s standards and guidelines.
  4. Coordinate the filing of consultants’ drawings into Kinross’s systems.
  5. Consolidate 2D drawings from multiple sources; experience with 3D models is an asset.
  6. Interpret technical drawings accurately.
  7. Manage projects from concept to implementation using project management techniques.
  8. Support the development of company design standards and procedures.
  9. Perform other related duties as required.

Education and Experience

  • Diploma in mechanical or civil engineering technician/technology; significant experience considered.
  • 5-10 years’ experience as a technician/drafter in mineral processing or heavy industrial environments.
  • Knowledge of AutoDesk, Plant 3D, Civil 3D, Navisworks, and/or Bentley MicroStation.
  • Strength in mechanical, civil, and structural drafting for site layouts, mechanical equipment, and piping design.
  • Basic understanding of plant process flowsheets and P&IDs.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to read various construction drawings.
  • Ability to perform in a fast-paced, changing environment.
  • Organizational skills for document control systems.
  • Proficiency in Windows 10 and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience with Canadian and Ontario projects is an asset.
