Design Systems - Application Engineer

Lead interface between the Chief Engineering team and the Product Release Center, primarily responsible for managing system interactions and interfaces between components and subsystems of the EDM gearbox.

The Design Systems / Applications Engineer reports to the Chief Engineer for multiple programs. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  1. EDM Gearbox hardware system responsibility (integration and system balancing of all EDM gearbox components)
  2. Interfacing with individual Design Release Engineers and Centers of Excellence (COEs)
  3. Development Validation Center
  4. Schedule hardware system design reviews across PRC and review DRE design proposals as required
  5. Organize reviews with Virtual Analysis / CAE team and ensure Virtual DVP / Scorecard completion prior to prototype hardware orders
  6. Manage Driveline System and Interface DFMEA / DRBFM reviews to ensure transparency and cohesive Design Controls leading to Robust DVP Actions
  7. Support CE & ACE in developing FTE and ER&D / ED&D Cost Roll-ups for Minor / MCA / New Programs
  8. Review and approve all change notices ensuring checklists, LL, and E-BPs are updated and aligned
  9. Lead Technical Cost Reductions (TCRs) / Value Optimization (VO) efforts in collaboration with PRC, DVC, and VO teams
  10. Manage lessons learned documentation for the program and ensure timely updates to TS and E-BPs
  11. Review driveline system and component validation status with DVC periodically and provide updates to CE
  12. Coordinate DRBTR reviews and manage follow-up items and decision-making on GIMS
  13. Manage CQI and GIMS cross-functional teams, creating priorities, action plans, and tracking progress

Requirements :

  1. Bachelor's in Engineering - Mechanical, Electrical, or Equivalent
  2. 0-3 years engineering experience
  3. Knowledge of EDM Gearboxes, Drivelines, Axles, or Transmission Systems and interface requirements
  4. Excellent communication skills, including presenting complex material to various audiences
  5. Strong leadership and problem-solving skills with a bias for action
  6. Ability to work under pressure and troubleshoot effectively
  7. Self-motivated with excellent organizational skills

Preferred Qualifications :

  1. Up to 5 years of engineering experience in driveline, axles, transmission, electrified driveline, or powertrain systems
  2. Experience with Gearbox, Driveline, or Axle Design Release
  3. Master's in Engineering - Mechanical, Electrical, or Equivalent
  4. Leadership experience with small teams
  5. Knowledge of powertrain duty cycle analysis
  6. Ability to manage complex parts/systems
  7. Knowledge of powertrain product development processes
  8. Experience with Functional Block Diagrams, DFMEA, DVP&R
  9. Green/Black Belt in Shainin or DFSS (desirable)
  10. Experience with electric motors for automotive applications
  11. Proven ability to manage multiple projects
  12. System-level thinking skills
  13. Excellent presentation skills

Additional Must Haves :

  • Ability to work at ARDC site as needed, including short-notice visits
  • Transportation and location flexibility
  • Hybrid work capability (3-5 days/week at ARDC)
  • Occasional driving to Detroit/Auburn Hills for meetings/training (1-2 times/month)
  • Residence in Ontario, with GPA included on the resume
  • Ability to operate a Client Company Vehicle
