Job summary

AECOM Ottawa is seeking an on-site Deputy Design Quality Manager to drive quality across the Alexandra Bridge Replacement Project. You will supervise the Technical Quality Review Process, ensure deliverables meet standards, and coordinate multi-disciplinary teams throughout design and construction planning phases.

The role requires a P.Eng in Ontario or eligibility, 8+ years of infrastructure experience, and strong leadership in quality systems and training.

Job Description

AECOM Ottawa is seeking an on-site Design Quality Manager to support the Alexandra Bridge Replacement Project (ABRP).

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Under general direction, provides technical supervision of the Technical Quality Review Process during the design development and detailed design phases of the ABRP, in accordance with the Design Quality Management Plan (DQMP). Oversees the quality-related aspects of technical deliverables for major project submissions, coordinates the efforts of technical support staff as needed, and oversees compliance with the interdisciplinary and constructability review processes of the design team.

AECOM would like the Deputy Design Quality Manager to begin work during the early design development phase in 2026. This will allow the individual to become familiar with the details of the design, the design team members, subconsultants, and construction and fabrication delivery partners. This knowledge will be necessary to develop the Engineering Services During Construction Plan for the project's execution phase.

• Applies broad expertise to deliver key quality assignments effectively and efficiently.
• Leads quality assurance and quality control functions within assigned program(s) or project area(s), ensuring design, procurement, and installation meet both client and AECOM quality standards.
• Provides leadership in the development and implementation of quality systems, procedures, proposals, and related initiatives.
• Applies advanced quality assurance/control theories and research methodologies to solve complex, cutting-edge technical challenges.
• Assesses and plans technical approaches to problems, organizing resources to develop effective solutions to complex quality issues.
• Reviews project processes and assesses outcomes to ensure quality objectives are met.
• Evaluates supplier capabilities and performance in delivering required products and services.
• Makes frequent decisions based on sound engineering principles and professional judgment.
• Conducts investigations and quality testing of moderate to high complexity.
• Offers technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers, technicians, and inspectors.
• Maintains revisions to the project-specific Design Quality Management Plan and Engineering Services During Construction Plan and provides regular training to the design team.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline (Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering) plus 8+ years of experience managing quality for infrastructure design projects.
• P.Eng. in Ontario.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience managing design quality assurance/quality control on large infrastructure or transit design projects (e.g., LRT, SkyTrain, rail, or major roadway).
• Familiarity with relevant codes, standards, and regulatory requirements (e.g., ISO 9001, CSA, or applicable provincial transportation authority standards).
• Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Canada, or eligibility to obtain it.
• Certified ISO 9001 Lead Auditor.
• Strong understanding of multidisciplinary design coordination and quality workflows.
• Experience working with contractors, consultants, and government stakeholders in a quality leadership role.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence design teams toward quality-driven results.
• Ability to provide ongoing design quality training to design teams.
• Proficiency in quality management systems and software tools used for tracking NCRs, audits, and corrective actions.

Offered rate of compensation will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The range for this position is $150000 to $200000.
