Job summary

IPS-Integrated Project Services in Vaughan, Ontario seeks a Design Project Manager I to lead engineering functions, manage budgets, schedules, and client relationships on technically complex facilities projects.

You will plan and organize engineering efforts, coordinate with client and project team, and guide manpower and resource loading while promoting safety and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of industry experience with at least 2 years in project management.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture, or planning.
  • Strong administrative, planning, and coordination abilities.
  • Fundamental level of scheduling skills and safety awareness.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and teamwork.
  • Proficiency with IT tools and scheduling software.
  • Understanding of Earned Value and project controls.

Responsibilities

  • Lead scope, cost, schedule, and quality objectives for assigned projects.
  • Coordinate client interaction between project team and client.
  • Develop and maintain the Project Execution Plan.
  • Prepare monthly financial and schedule reports for leadership and clients.
  • Manage sub-consultants and multiple small projects concurrently.
  • Mentor project engineers and promote continuous improvement.
  • Uphold IPS safety policies and risk mitigation efforts.
  • Attend client meetings and assist in budget development.

Job Description

At IPS, we are global leaders in developing innovative solutions for the consulting, architecture, engineering, project controls, procurement, construction management, and CQV of technically complex facilities, primarily in the life sciences industry. We are looking for a dedicated Design Project Manager I to join our talented team at our office in Vaughan, Ontario.

In this role, you will provide leadership on assigned projects and act to achieve financial, schedule, and client relationship objectives. You will also plan and organize all engineering functions specific to the project, coordinate client interaction between the project team and client, and provide guidance on recommended manpower and technical resource loading.

Additional Responsibilities
  • Holds primary responsibility for achievement of scope, cost, schedule, and quality objectives on assigned projects.
  • Ensures achievement of corporate goals for assigned projects.
  • Attends pre-bid meetings with clients and prepares proposals in conjunction with department heads, directors, and other key individuals.
  • Actively assists in Design budget development.
  • Manages client interaction on assigned projects and promotes positive relationships.
  • Identifies risks to the project and the corporation and works with the Project Executives and the Director of Operations to mitigate risks.
  • Responsible for project scope control and development/communication of all change notices to the client.
  • Coordinates with project discipline leads to determining the scope, complexity, and planning and scheduling requirements of the projects.
  • Develops and maintains the Project Execution Plan.
  • Prepares internal monthly financial/schedule reports for the Director of Operations for each project.
  • Prepares monthly financial/schedule reports for the Client as requested by the client.
  • Enhances and facilitates project team communication and coordination.
  • Develops and maintains meeting minutes and Action Items/Needs List for each project.
  • Manages all sub-consultants on the project.
  • Runs multiple simultaneous small projects.
  • Assists in identifying and developing innovative methods for improving project management processes and techniques against current SOPs.
  • Strives for continuous improvement in all internal processes.
  • Provides guidance and mentorship to project engineers.
  • Accepts responsibility for things under direct control.
  • Sees things going wrong and corrects them before problems arise.
  • Identify areas of potential Innovation and improvement for the group.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • 5+ years of industry experience, at least two of which include Project Management experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture, or planning.
  • Progressive ability, capacity, and aptitude in administration to plan, organize, supervise, and coordinate technical work and to obtain cooperation from others.
  • Fundamental level of scheduling skills.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Analytical thinking, structured problem-solving skills, excellent communication skills, team building, and strong work ethic.
  • Must be able to build rapport with project staff.
  • Skilled in the use of IT tools, including spreadsheets, word processing, planning, and scheduling software.
  • Understanding of Earned Value and other project controls methods.
  • Promotes Safety and adheres to IPS and client Safety policies.
Physical Demands
  • Must be able to stand, sit, and walk for prolonged periods.
  • Must possess the ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl as required.
  • Must be able to lift and move objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Must be able to climb ladders as necessary.
Work Environment
  • Must be able to work in both indoor and outdoor environments, which may include exposure to varying working conditions.
  • Must be able to adhere to strict cleanroom gowning protocol.
Travel
  • This position will require 5-20% travel or as required by the assigned project.
  • You may be assigned to a client site for an extended period.
  • Overnight travel or staying in the city of the Client’s location is possible, depending on the assignment.

  • You will visit Client sites and must adhere to stated safety rules.
  • Must have access to reliable transportation.
  • Must have the ability to travel and commute on a daily or routine basis.
Safety
  • This position is a safety-sensitive position.
  • The employee is designated for field work and attends activities at client sites where they work in construction, process, packaging, manufacturing, research, or other "non-administrative" areas.

All interviews are conducted either in person or virtually, with video required.
