Job description

SUMMARY

Mortenson is currently seeking an experienced Design Phase Manager who will also play an active role in Business Development. The ideal candidate must interact effectively with staff at all levels in a dynamic environment, remaining flexible, resourceful, proactive, and professional. They should anticipate problems and opportunities, creatively problem-solve, and lead the design process to ensure the owner's vision is realized. This role may involve managing multiple smaller projects or one larger project, alongside business development responsibilities.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Manage the design process:
  • Collaborate with clients to define project expectations and key design focus areas.
  • Support the preparation and presentation of project proposals.
  • Develop detailed project schedules for design and construction baselines.
  • Conduct detailed construction planning, including contract manuals, subcontractor selections, and logistics, utilizing Lean Design Delivery principles and BIM/VDC technology.
  • Coordinate design team efforts to incorporate constructability, logistics, customer expectations, and critical success factors, providing input to programming and conceptual design.
  • Lead estimating team members in developing technical designs, specifications, and schedules, along with cost documentation.
  • Manage design phase costs, estimates, value engineering, life-cycle analysis, and financial management.
  • Manage business development positioning activities:
    • Participate in strategic planning and develop positioning strategies for project pursuits.
    • Coordinate prequalification efforts with targeted clients and partners.
    • Gather customer feedback on proposals and presentations.
    • Act as a liaison between business development, pre-construction, and marketing teams.
    • Provide insights into local market sectors.
    QUALIFICATIONS
    • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Architectural Engineering, Construction Management, Estimating, Marketing, or a related field.
    • At least six years of relevant experience.
    • Strong teamwork, initiative, communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
    • Attention to detail for managing multiple tasks.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, project management, and web applications at an intermediate level.
    • Professional attitude and excellent customer service skills.
    • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel.

    PAY RANGE

    The base pay range is $110,700-$166,100, with higher ranges depending on office location (e.g., Denver, CO; Chicago, IL; Seattle, WA; Portland, OR; Washington, D.C.).
