Who we are looking for :

Due to continuing growth in our Health Care and Social Infrastructure practice, our EDO (Engineering Design Organization) is looking for a dynamic and motivated individual to take on the role of Design Manager – Health Care and Social Infrastructure based out of any of our GTA offices - Waterloo, Toronto, Mississauga, Markham, Whitby.

Working with an energetic and high performing team, this position offers a variety of work and will see you involved in :

  • Managing multi-disciplinary project delivery for health care and social infrastructure projects to produce compliant, constructible designs in accordance with client, operation, maintenance, and construction requirements.
  • Ensuring design follows appropriate engineering processes, including GHD and project-specific processes.
  • Coordinating quality control of all deliverables per GHD’s Quality Management System.
  • Developing or verifying the technical scope of projects, providing pricing during proposals, and work planning post-award.
  • Participating in schedule preparation and adherence with the Project Controls team.
  • Managing engineering design budgets and providing inputs to project control teams.
  • Implementing and following the project’s change control system, including proactive escalation of potential changes.
  • Reviewing and improving project strategies to meet schedule and budget, supporting staging and phasing requirements.
  • Maintaining fluid communication among project management, design, construction teams, and stakeholders.
  • Verifying schedule and budget data against project progress.
  • Coordinating design criteria preparation by team leads.
  • Leading the creation and execution of design work plans and LOE.
  • Chairing and documenting interdisciplinary design coordination meetings, addressing issues impacting stakeholders.
  • Serving as liaison during construction for resolving multidisciplinary problems related to non-compliance at the site.

What you will bring to the team :

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from a recognized college or university.
  • 10+ years of design management experience on large ($250M+ CAPX), multi-discipline engineering teams for healthcare and social infrastructure projects within Canada.
  • Technical proficiency and project design experience in clinical environments, construction, or operations.
  • Expertise in human-centered design or healthcare facility planning, with knowledge of hospital regulations, CSA standards, and accessibility standards.
  • Familiarity with BIM and IPD approaches.
  • Experience with EHR systems such as Epic, Cerner, or Meditech.
  • Experience with Ontario healthcare planning, design, and capital approval processes.
  • Understanding of clinical workflows and patient pathways.
  • Certification in Lean Six Sigma (Green/Black Belt) or equivalent, with experience in process mapping, RCA, and KPI development.
  • Strong budgeting, resource allocation, and team leadership skills.
  • Knowledge of scheduling software and cost estimating techniques.
  • Familiarity with project delivery methods like PDB, Alliances, and P3s.
  • PEO membership is an asset.
  • Ability to handle uncertainty and changing priorities.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
