Job description

Our client is a family-owned Canadian manufacturer of water treatment equipment. Based in Barrie, Ontario, the business serves customers across Canada and the United States through an established dealer network and a growing commercial and industrial operation.

As the commercial and industrial group expands into a dedicated facility, our client is seeking an experienced Design Engineer to strengthen its existing product portfolio and lead the development of new equipment.

This is a hands-on product design role for an engineer with deep experience in industrial water treatment equipment. You will work closely with manufacturing, applications, sales and marketing, and controls specialists to improve existing designs and bring new water treatment products to market. The successful candidate will be a technically self-sufficient contributor who can provide practical design leadership in a manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop and improve commercial and industrial water treatment equipment
  • Support product innovation across water softening, filtration, reverse osmosis and related treatment systems
  • Apply strong knowledge of ion exchange, membrane technology, controls and equipment integration
  • Lead the mechanical, electrical and electronic design considerations of new and existing products
  • Collaborate closely with manufacturing to ensure designs are practical, manufacturable and scalable
  • Work with internal design, PLC/controls and applications teams to define product requirements and development priorities
  • Contribute to the development of new product lines
  • Provide technical leadership and make sound engineering decisions with minimal supervision
  • Participate in occasional customer or internal technical discussions as required
About You
  • 5 to 10 years of relevant experience designing commercial or industrial water treatment equipment in Canada
  • Hands-on product or equipment design experience, not solely applications engineering, consulting or system specification
  • Strong background in desalination, water softening, filtration, reverse osmosis, ion exchange and/or membrane systems, ideally well-rounded across both ion exchange and membrane/RO technologies
  • Understanding of PLC-based controls, control panels and the programming requirements for larger treatment systems
  • Practical knowledge of mechanical, electrical and electronic equipment design
  • Ability to improve existing products while independently developing new designs
  • Comfortable working directly with manufacturing and cross-functional teams in an on-site environment
