Job description

We are seeking an experienced, accomplished, and self-motivated Design Electrical Engineer or Technologist to work in the Electrical group based out of our Barrie or Collingwood office. This position is responsible for creating and implementing processes and designs using computer-aided design (CAD) software, and other software tools.

The Design Electrical Engineer/Technologist will mainly work on projects from the Land Development department. Typical projects include: power distribution projects, municipal and private site lighting projects, utilities coordination and engineering peer review projects.

The variety of work provides challenges for the Electrical Engineer/Technologist to advance their skills and practical experience in a collaborative environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare drawings for various designs including Title blocks, base plans, linework, single line diagrams, lighting layouts, voltage drops, fault current calculations, etc.
  • Perform engineering calculations using relevant software and engineering design standards
  • Planning and design of land development projects using appropriate software
  • Report writing, project coordination and management
  • Prepare electrical distribution layout of the primary system including the design of switchgears, three phase transformer and interconnection with local utility company distribution system
  • Prepare single line diagram to identify the primary express and loop feeders
  • Prepare load calculations to determine transformer size and service feeder calculations and duct bank designs
  • Prepare roadway lighting design and photometric layout using Agi32 software
  • Coordinate with the utilities and review their designs for the final construction approvals
  • Coordinate site/field visits to review and confirm existing conditions

Key Position Requirements:

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Technology
  • Minimum of 5 years of engineering design experience, preferably in the consulting environment
  • P.Eng. or CET in the Province of Ontario
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel as well as AutoCAD
  • Understanding of the Ontario Building Code and Ontario Electrical safety Code
  • Strong communication and technical writing skills
  • Enthusiasm to work in a team structure and a willingness to guide, help and collaborate with others
  • Working knowledge of appropriate design and analysis software
  • Full knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Understanding of relevant legislation, guidelines and standards
  • Experience with business development and project management is an asset
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects and work independently under minimal supervision
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
