Job Description

AECOM is seeking a Design & Construction Circularity & Waste Specialist to join our team. This position is based on-site, out of Mississauga. We are seeking professionals to join our team to help us build one of the most advanced, sustainable and passenger-friendly airports in the world.

Major Requirements:

  • Coordinates construction-related sustainability objectives, including requirements for recycling, reuse, and waste disposal.
  • Supports the development and implementation of waste and circularity initiatives, encompassing terminal waste, outbuildings waste, construction waste, circular construction practices, and off-aircraft waste.
  • Ensures proper handling, recycling, disposal, and removal of all waste materials—particularly hazardous waste—at construction sites.
  • Verifies that project designs incorporate self-sustaining circular ecosystems, infrastructure needs, innovative waste and pollution management solutions, and strategies to minimize carbon footprint.
  • Collaborates with Stakeholder Relations and Communications (SR&C) and external stakeholders to align sustainability strategies across the project.
  • Ensures the overall program and design strategy addresses all applicable sustainability requirements, aligning with principles of sustainable development, and promoting occupant well-being and lifestyle.
  • Confirms that all relevant workstreams align with the organization’s vision and strategic commitment to a sustainable, carbon-positive, and environmentally responsible future.

Minimum Requirements:

In order to be considered for this position, candidates must possess, at a very minimum:

University Degree in engineering, planning, or a sustainability-related discipline + 4 years of experience in the environmental, energy, or sustainable design sectors.

Demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education may be considered.

Preferred Requirements:
  • Relevant professional certifications (e.g., PE, CEM, LEED AP, ENV SP).
  • Proven track record in delivering sustainability outcomes within the infrastructure sector; experience with large, complex programs is a strong asset.
  • In-depth knowledge of best practices for reducing embodied carbon in building materials and achieving net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) facilities.
  • Demonstrated expertise in sustainable resource management, materials efficiency, and circular economy principles.
  • Strong technical proficiency across all project phases, with the ability to address complex challenges using data analytics to inform and support decision-making.
