What is the Opportunity?
As part of an alliance agreement, Aecon Nuclear has been awarded a contract with Ontario Power Generation to support the Darlington New Nuclear Project (DNNP). Beginning of 2023, Aecon started to support with the validation phase design, procurement, early site preparation and site mobilization scope for the Construction of the Unit 1 Small Modular Reactor at the Darlington site.

Reporting to the Technical Director, this role will support work within the DNNP Balance of Plant scope and will be responsible for planning, design, and execution of the temporary and permanent structures.

What You'll Do Here:

  • Work closely with field team to understand their need and prepare concept, design for all required temporary structures.
  • Collaborate with external engineers and internal team to create detailed technical drawings and schematics.
  • Create and finalize shop fabrication drawings including custom fabrication and design.
  • Material take off and generation of bill of materials.
  • Conduct quality checks on completed work to identify any errors or discrepancies.
  • Support all projects through the fabrication process or temporary steel structures.
  • Design/plan and supervise all structural steel required for: - Working platform – Brackets, - Access scaffolding – Base plates – anchorage – Tie off point – working at height elements – tie backs – guying and bracing all structures during construction.
  • Provide status and progress reports to customer, project team, and management.
  • Interface with client representatives, design engineers, consultants, other contractors, etc.
  • Ensure project is constructed in accordance with QA Programs and project quality.
  • All other duties as assigned.

What You Bring to the Table:

  • Post secondary education in an Engineering Civil discipline.
  • Professional engineer (P.Eng) is required.
  • Minimum 15 years’ experience in structural design and detailing fabrication with a focus on temporary structures (steel, wood, concrete, etc.).
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication (both oral and written) skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills in communicating with a large team.
  • Organizational and time management skills. Ability to prioritize and multi-task/service oriented.
  • Thrive in a fast-paced environment.
