The Deputy Sheriff II is a frontline, uniformed, and working supervisor who holds the legislated statutory appointment of Deputy Sheriff and acts as a Peace Officer pursuant to Section 25 of the Criminal Code of Canada. Reporting directly to the Regional Superintendent of Court Security, the Deputy Sheriff II is responsible for delivering a complex and highly specialized program of facility court security and prisoner management services to the Law Courts of Newfoundland and Labrador and ensures high levels of coordination with interested parties and partners with interests in the Court Security Program, including other Departments and Agencies (RCMP, RNC, HMP, local and integrated law enforcement agencies, and provincial enforcement agencies). The Deputy Sheriff II provides leadership and guidance to Deputy Sheriff I Officers in all aspects of court security, including prisoner escort, secure custody, point of entry, prisoner transport, and jury administration. They are responsible for Court Security Operations at assigned Court locations; develops and maintains Court Security scheduling and deployments in collaboration with law court representatives and other departments/agencies as appropriate; provides input to Court Security policies and procedures; participates in committees and projects; coaches and mentors Deputy Sheriff Officers; ensures Deputy Sheriff Officers continually display a high standard of dress, deportment, and professionalism and holds them accountable for their actions and decisions; performs other duties as directed by the Regional Superintendent.
