About Us

The Ministry of Corrections, Policing and Public Safety is responsible for overseeing Saskatchewan’s correctional systems and facilities and provides guidance and support to Saskatchewan’s municipal police service.

The Custody Services Division is responsible for the implementation and operation of adult and youth offender services in Saskatchewan as defined by The Correctional Services Act, 2012.

The Opportunity

The Saskatoon Correctional Centre requires a highly motivated person for the position of Deputy Director of Operations. This position will provide leadership and direction in the establishment, and implementation and delivery of its corrections programs. Reporting to the Director of the Saskatoon Correctional Centre, this position is responsible for overseeing the security, safe custody and operation of the institution. This position oversees the admitting, secure, reintegration, assistant deputy director of operations office and control room work teams within a 24-hour 7 day a week correctional facility. As a key member of this team, you will provide guidance and advice to colleagues, develop relationships and partnerships with other members of the criminal justice system, other managers in the Ministry, service agencies, and Indigenous and professional groups.

To qualify for this position, you will have extensive operational experience in a management / supervisory role.

Responsibilities Include

  • Establishing, implementing and ensuring delivery of correctional programs and processes that directly promote a safe and secure correctional centre;
  • Providing leadership, support, direction and counsel to middle managers, supervisors and staff to promote and achieve organizational goals;
  • Liaising with other departments, civic and federal agencies and political and community groups to establish coordination of program delivery and application of justice activities; and
  • Providing support to the director in the management and administrative functions of the centre including finance, programs, security, health, food services and human resource management.

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate for this role will be someone who has :

  • Proven leadership experience in a management role, preferably in a correctional environment or similar;
  • Well-developed written and oral communication skills and the ability to work with and influence a variety of stakeholders;
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain professionalism when dealing with sensitive and confidential issues and information;
  • Ability to seek opportunities for innovation and continuous improvement while actively involving colleagues;
  • Demonstrated ability to consult / work with other organizations, colleagues, individuals and communities to develop positive workingrelationships, policies and protocols, address complaints and establish partnerships;
  • Ability to independently plan, organize, manage and lead several diverse and complex tasks and projects under strict and changing priorities and deadlines;
  • Experience promoting employee engagement and a positive workplace culture;
  • Ability to demonstrate our core values with accountability and professionalism by acting with honesty and integrity at all times while treating everyone with dignity and respect;
  • Knowledge of correctional theories, practices and interventions for addressing the criminogenic needs of offenders;
  • Multi-cultural beliefs, values and perspectives particularly for Indigenous peoples; and
  • Knowledge of The Correctional Services Act, 2012, The Correctional Services Regulations 2013, and The Saskatchewan Employment Act.
  • Typically, the knowledge and experience for this position is obtained through a combination of completion of a university degree in public administration, human justice, or a related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience in the criminal justice system.
