Dr. Susan Dieleman (Jarislowsky Chair in Trust and Political Leadership and Associate Professor, Department of Philosophy) is offering a full-time, postdoctoral fellowship for one year, renewable for one year subject to satisfactory performance and funding.
Candidates should be working on topics related to social and political trust and distrust, deliberation and political rhetoric, polarization, and/or public philosophy. Candidates working in one or more of these research areas with a PhD in Philosophy or a closely related discipline are welcome to apply.
The successful candidate will conduct research for scholarly and public audiences. They also will work with the Department of Philosophy, the Critical Thinking and Citizen Engagement Lab, and relevant stakeholders to help build capacity for public philosophy, community engagement, and Ethics Bowl at the high school and collegiate levels. Experience with these sorts of projects will be considered an asset. Postdoctoral Fellows at the University of Lethbridge are represented by the University of Lethbridge Postdoctoral Fellows Association.
Fellowship Details
The successful candidate will:
- Be available starting July 1 or September 1 2025, and continuing for no less than 12 months and no more than 24 months;
- Complete the research project(s) proposed at the time of application;
- Pursue publication of the research conducted in peer-reviewed scholarly venues as well as public-facing venues;
- Present their research at the University;
- Participate regularly in Departmental, CTCE Lab, and University events and activities;
- Work with relevant stakeholders to build capacity for public philosophy, community engagement, and Ethics Bowl.
The Supervisor And/or University Will Offer
- A minimum salary of $46,000 for the first year, inclusive of any sessional teaching amounts;
- Sessional teaching opportunities, at the standard rate, during one or both years of the appointment, subject to the University of Lethbridge Faculty Association (ULFA) Academic Staff Collective Agreement;
- Access to the services of the University (e.g., library, information technologies);
- Office and meeting space on campus;
- Access to funding opportunities for research dissemination.
Fellowship Eligibility
Applicants must:
- have fulfilled all degree requirements for their PhD before commencing the appointment, but no longer than five years prior to the start of the award (excepting career interruptions);
- not hold a permanent faculty position or a faculty position leading to permanency.

- Statement addressing career interruptions (max. 1 page, single-spaced), if you are outside the 5-year eligibility window.
