Lakehead University, Thunder Bay Campus, invites applications for one tenure-track faculty appointment at the rank of Assistant / Associate Professor in the Department of Indigenous Learning, starting January 1, with flexibility on the start date. The appointment's academic rank will depend on the candidate's qualifications.

The Department of Indigenous Learning seeks well-rounded candidates who balance research, teaching, and service. Applicants should have completed a PhD in Indigenous Studies or a related field by the time of appointment or be in the final stages of their PhD candidacy.

Ideal candidates will have :

  • Experience working with Indigenous communities in northern regions of Turtle Island and organizations outside academia;
  • Experience grounded in community relationships;
  • Experience with innovative pedagogical practices;
  • Experience with experiential learning and online or alternative modes of delivery;
  • Lived experience as an Indigenous person with strong ties to Indigenous nations and knowledge systems (considered a significant asset).

Experience with experiential learning and online or alternative delivery modes is highly desired.

The department is located on the Thunder Bay campus within the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities. It is an interdisciplinary program that promotes understanding of Indigenous intellectual traditions and relations between Indigenous and settler communities. Programs include a Bachelor of Arts (Indigenous Learning Major), Honours Bachelor of Arts (Indigenous Learning Major), and a minor in Indigenous Learning combined with other disciplines.
