Position Summary

Reporting to the Program Lead, and in alignment with the vision and values of the organization, this position practices in accordance with the standards of professional practice and code of ethics as outlined by the College of Dental Hygienists of British Columbia. It involves providing dental health prevention and promotion services for communities and populations in Northern Health.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or Degree in Dental Hygiene from the British Columbia College of Oral Health.
  • Current registration and licensure as a Registered Dental Hygienist in the Province of British Columbia.
  • Minimum one (1) year recent, related dental hygiene experience including experience in a community health organization or the equivalent working with children, youth, and their families.
  • Current valid BC driver’s license and use of personal vehicle for business use.

  • Assessment and Treatment: Demonstrated ability to complete initial and ongoing client assessments (clinical and diagnostic reasoning) through appropriate/prescribed technical, therapeutic, safety type interventions.
  • Teaching: Ability to teach clients and others both one-on-one and in groups.
  • Knowledge Integration: Integrates best practice and current research evidence to support professional practice decisions and actions.
  • Communication: Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with clients, families, the public, medical staff, and members of the interdisciplinary team using verbal, written, and electronic means. Ability to effectively apply conflict resolution skills.
  • Critical Thinking: Ability to evaluate data from multiple sources to problem-solve and make decisions effectively, applying a systems approach.
  • Human Caring and Relationship Centered Practice: Ability to promote client-focused care, demonstrate care for clients and significant others, and advocate for social justice.
  • Management: Ability to organize work, set objectives, establish priorities, and collaborate across disciplines.
  • Leadership: Promote staff morale, engagement, and empowerment. Demonstrate planning for change and ongoing professional development.
  • Teamwork: Foster teamwork and a commitment to excellence in client care.
  • Equipment: Demonstrated computer skills, data analysis skills, and ability to operate related equipment. Proficiency in electronic documentation systems, email, and word processing.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
