Responsibilities
  1. Plan, organize, direct, control, and evaluate the purchasing activities of an establishment
  2. Develop purchasing policies and procedures and control the purchasing department budget
  3. Identify vendors of materials, equipment, or supplies
  4. Evaluate cost and quality of goods or services
  5. Negotiate or oversee the negotiation of purchase contracts
  6. Participate in the development of specifications for equipment, products, or substitute materials
  7. Review and process claims against suppliers
  8. Interview, hire, and oversee the training of staff
  9. Create, monitor, analyze, and improve the demand forecast for both the short and long term
  10. Cooperate with the sales and supply chain (operations) teams and contribute to clarity about capacity needs
Requirements
  1. Procurement and purchasing agents and officers usually require a bachelor's degree or college diploma in business administration, commerce, or economics
  2. 3-5 years of work experience in the supply chain for sourcing specialists and analysts is usually required (a comparable, relevant position)
