Job Description

The Optimisation Team within Armed Forces & Veteran Services (AFVS) is focused on the relentless improvement and optimisation of existing and funded AFVS service lines whilst remaining ready to exploit new and emerging opportunities across the technological landscape.

The AFVS Optimisation Business Analyst is a key role, supporting AFVS’s efforts as they build and maintain a new product backlog and ensure their products are aligned with business objectives and our end-user’s needs.

The team’s Business Analyst will work with the delivery team to:

  • identify and compare the best processes or delivery methods to use, including measuring and evaluating outcomes
  • help the team to decide the best approach
  • help teams to manage and visualise outcomes, prioritise work and adhere to agreed minimum viable product (MVP), priorities and scope
  • apply structured approaches to identify, investigate, analyse and communicate complex business problems and opportunities, within a defined project.
  • analyse business goals, objectives, functions and processes, using relevant information and data to support the definition of requirements.
  • conduct options analysis, assess feasibility and operational impact, quantify potential business benefits and contribute to business case development.

Person specification

Qualifications:

  • Professional Membership: Desirable membership in a recognised professional body with externally recognised evidence of professional development is important. This includes certifications such as the BCS Certificate in Business Analysis Foundation and the BCS International Diploma in Business Analysis core modules.
  • Professional certification in Business Analysis (e.g., CBAP, CCBA) is desirable.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Information Technology, or a related field is desirable.
  • Competent with the use of MS Office applications (MS Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word) to analyse and present findings and recommendations. Familiar with project-delivery applications such as JIRA, which we use extensively to track and deliver results.

Experience:

  • Previous experience as a Business Analyst or a similar role.
  • Demonstrated success in gathering and analysing business requirements.
  • Experience with process modelling, data analysis, and documentation.
  • Familiar with Agile and Scrum methodologies.

Skills:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Proficiency in using business analysis tools (eg Visio, Jira, Confluence).
  • Ability to translate complex business needs into clear technical specifications.

DBS has recently undertaken a review of its operational locations in the North West, and have consolidated all activities in Norcross, Blackpool. A further move, to the new Government Hub at Talbot Gateway in Blackpool, is scheduled to take place in 2026.
