Job summary

Job description

This position focuses on Lafarge’s commitment to decarbonization and digitization at the 1.2 million ton per year Lafarge Cement manufacturing facility in Richmond British Columbia. This individual will support the improvements to reach our goals to reduce carbon and support the implementation of any new technology to advance the plant into the future. The student will be exposed to all areas / departments (Environment, Health and Safety, Production, Process and Maintenance). Projects will vary in degree of complexity through the term and will aid in the student’s development of both technical and soft skills. This is not a laboratory position and the candidate will be working in the office and within the cement manufacturing operations with the quality, maintenance, process and production teams.

Organizational Structure:

  • Reports to Decarbonization and Digitization Manager

Specific Accountabilities:

  • Comply with all plant safety regulations & practices
  • Become familiar with cement manufacturing
  • Daily monitor and checks of the manufacturing process and report out and address any issues
  • Assist with external data requests pertaining to existing or new projects
  • Review and revise training programs and safety procedures
  • Carry out industrial trials, audits and projects in cross functional teams - process, production and quality
  • Analyze and interpret process and quality data
  • Collect, prepare and ensure transit of samples to the lab for analysis (this is not a lab position)
  • Monitor critical process, quality and production equipment for failure and assist in any necessary trouble-shooting
  • Review and update the quality management system and documents database, develop control charts for in process and finished products
  • Membership on the Alternate Raw Materials / Fuels team
  • Compile data, maintain records and files, and participate in the preparation of clear and concise reports
  • Must be able to work as part of a team to ensure continuous improvement in their functional area as well as the overall plant performance
  • Perform research, field studies and literature reviews
  • Provide support for the development of any current or future programs within the area of assignment
  • Establish and maintain effective and professional working relationships with those contacted in the course of work

Qualifications:

  • Chemistry, Engineering, Engineering Science Student
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Comprehensive IT knowledge (Word, Excel, Aspen, SAP, VB)
  • Desirable that the individual has working knowledge or understanding of WorksafeBC regulations pertaining to (Working at heights (WAH), Confined Spaces, Lockout/Tag out procedures)
  • Have a strong commitment to safety
  • Demonstrated self-starter and must be able to drive for results
  • Any previous work experience is a benefit

Length of Work term: 8 - 12 months

Wage Range: 2nd year ($20-24/hr), 3rd year ($24-26/hr), 4th year (up to $28/hr)
