Job summary

Canadian Hearing Services (CHS) is seeking a Deafblind Intervenor for the Kingston/Belleville area. The Intervenor will communicate and guide individuals with combined hearing and sight loss, enabling access to information and participation in environments.

The role includes assisting with daily tasks, transporting clients, and supporting use of assistive devices. A Diploma in Deafblind services or equivalent is preferred, with ASL, LSQ and bilingual skills an asset.

Qualifications

  • Diploma in Deafblind services or equivalent (e.g., humanities or social work).
  • Three to five years’ experience with deafblind individuals.
  • ASL training is an asset.
  • Bilingualism (French/English) preferred; LSQ and alternative communication skills (Two Hand Manual, Braille) preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle for local travel.

  • Act as a communicator and sighted guide for individuals with combined hearing and sight loss.
  • Assist with daily tasks and accompany clients to appointments.

Canadian Hearing Services (CHS) has an opening for an Intervenor role servicing the Kingston/Belleville area. Reporting to the Manager, Deafblind Intervening Services, the Intervenor will act as a communicator and sighted guide for individuals with a combined loss of hearing and sight to provide access to information and facilitate interaction with their environment and surroundings. Additional responsibilities will involve assisting with daily tasks, transporting and accompanying clients to and from assignments and/or appointments, and providing support regarding assistive devices, etc.

This is a permanent, full-time unionized position, working Monday - Friday, 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

This posting is due to department expansion.

The ideal candidate would have a Diploma in Deafblind services or equivalent, e.g. studies in humanities or community (e.g. Social Work, Gerontology) , and/or three to five years’ experience working with individuals who are deafblind. Formal training in ASL would be an asset. Bilingualism (French/English) as well as LSQ training and alternative communication skills such as Two Hand Manual, Braille would be preferred. A valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle is required for frequent local (as well as occasional out of town) travel with clients.
