Job description

Solid Foundation Montessori School Inc offers an excellent quality childcare program and Montessori Method of Education for children aged 2 to 6 through our committed team of staff and a well-rounded curriculum that caters to the unique needs of every child.

Solid Foundation Montessori School Inc is currently seeking caring, creative and passionate Daycare Montessori Teachers to join the team.

We offer:

  • Wage Range: $17.17 – $19.00 per hour
  • Hours: 40 hours a week

Terms of employment:

  • Job start date: as soon as possible
  • Employment conditions: morning, day, evening
  • Valid Driver’s license

As a Daycare Montessori Teacher your main duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Implement the Montessori philosophy;
  • Plan, prepare and organize the learning environment;
  • Develop and implement programs that support and promote the physical, cognitive, emotional and social development of children;
  • Lead activities by telling or reading stories, teaching songs and taking children to local points of interest, provide opportunities to express creativity through the media of art, dramatic play, music and physical activity;
  • Establish and carry out a daily activity schedule that incorporates child directed activity, care routines and transition times;
  • Supervise and manage children both inside and outside the school;
  • Create a fun and safe learning environment;
  • Meet the needs and interests of the children;
  • Promote independence in the children;
  • Guide and assist children in the development of proper eating, dressing and toilet habits,
  • Develop schedules and routines to ensure adequate physical activity, rest, and playtime;
  • Instruct children in activities designed to promote intellectual and creative growth;
  • Teach courteous behaviours and pro-social conflict resolution skills;
  • Observe children for signs of potential learning or behavioural problems and prepare reports for parents, guardians or supervisor;
  • Assess the abilities, interests and needs of children;
  • Communicate with parents on students’ growth and progress;
  • Attend staff meetings to discuss progress and problems of children;

Qualifications and Skills:

  • M.I. Montessori Diploma (one year or two-year full time course)

OR

  • MACTE (Montessori Accreditation Council for Teacher Education) Diploma
  • Ability to communicate in English
  • 1 to less than 2 years of experience working with children
  • Valid Emergency First Aid & CPR Certificate
  • Criminal record check
  • Vulnerable sector check

Work Setting: Before and after school programs, Day care centre or nursery school

Work Site Environment: Outdoors, Non-smoking
