Job summary

Kids & Company in Victoria, BC is seeking a Kitchen Assistant to support daily kitchen operations, prepare and portion meals, and deliver them to classrooms while upholding food safety standards.

Responsibilities include assisting with food preparation, organizing serving supplies, maintaining cleanliness, rotating stock, and collaborating with the Cook and Centre Director to keep the kitchen running smoothly.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience in a Kitchen Assistant role.
• High School diploma or GED required.
• Current Food Handler Certification, or willingness to obtain it.
• Experience in a daycare environment is an asset.
• Valid driver’s license and a clean driver’s abstract.
• Strong communication skills. A clean criminal record check is required.
• Physical ability to lift, push, and pull up to 45 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Receive meals and snacks, portion the food, and deliver it to classrooms, ensuring food is distributed safely and on time.
• Assist with food preparation tasks, such as cutting fruit, and perform other kitchen support duties as assigned.
• Prepare and organize meal service supplies, including bins, serving materials, and delivery carts.
• Collect dishes, utensils, and meal service equipment from classrooms.
• Wash, rinse, sanitize, and properly store dishes, utensils, serving equipment, and food trolleys in accordance with food safety standards.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen by cleaning work areas, equipment, storage areas, and meal service items.
• Assist with organizing, storing, and rotating food products, kitchen supplies, and inventory.
• Follow all food safety, sanitation, allergy-awareness, and workplace health and safety requirements.
• Work collaboratively with the Cook and Centre Director to support efficient kitchen operations.
• Perform other related duties as required to support the overall operation of the kitchen.
