The Salvation Army is seeking a Day Camp Counsellor to lead, plan, and supervise summer day camp programs in Aurora. Job Description:
POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY:
The Day Camp Counsellor will instruct, plan, implement and supervise the summer day camp program as well as supervise children. Within the context and mission of the Salvation Army Northridge Community Church, work cooperatively with other day camp staff in all aspects of the summer day camp program.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Work cooperatively with the Children's Ministries Coordinator, church staff and volunteers in all aspects of the program.
Lead and/or assist in check-in/out, attendance, concessions, music, craft, recreation and supervise/support in latchkey, game room, ready and concessions.
Assist day camp coordinator in securing daily supplies.
Monitor and provide leadership to campers during both large and small group activities.
Work with program staff to plan and execute daily activities.
Inform Day Camp Coordinator of any staff or camper issues.
Stay with assigned groups during field trips as required.
Prepare snacks for Day Camper.
Clearly communicate directions for program activities.
General Accountabilities
Perform other relevant duties as assigned, i.e., set-up, and camp cleanup.
Ensure the highest standard of health and safety for all campers, volunteers, and staff.
Assist with ensuring the emotional wellness and personal development of campers.
Administer emergency first aid as needed and record treatment with proper documentation.
Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and
safety policies and procedures.
Support campers to develop socially, mentally, and spiritually.
Know and act in accordance with policies and procedures of The Salvation Army to ensure the safety and confidentiality of participants and information.
Act in cases of urgency or emergency in alignment with camp policies and procedures.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
CRITICAL RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT
Governance Boards and Councils: None
Internal:
Children's Ministries Coordinator, Day Camp Coordinator, other staff, and volunteers.
Attend meetings and staff training as required.
External:
Community, campers, and family members.
MANAGERIAL/TECHNICAL LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITY:
Reports directly to: Children's Ministries Coordinator
FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT:
Authorized to collect small amounts of cash.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
This is a temporary full-time position based 35 hours per week.
This job requires the ability to lift/move 25 lbs. and reach, bend, stand, sit, and use a computer.
Working environment is in a day camp setting, both indoor and outdoor in generally agreeable conditions with the following exceptions: exposure to tantrums and noise.
Flexibility in scheduling is required.
Normal hours of work: the hours of work and work schedule will be set by the supervisor as per operational requirements, Monday to Friday, 8:15 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. and includes a ½ hour paid meal break.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Submit as required a Police Record Check (vulnerable sector check) that is acceptable to The Salvation Army in its sole discretion.
This position is funded in part through the Canada Summer Jobs Program, and the following represents the applicant criteria:
Aged 15 to 30 years at the beginning of the employment period;
Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or a person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment*; and,
Holds a valid Social Insurance Number;and, be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
*International students are not eligible participants. International students include anyone who is temporarily in Canada for studies and who is not a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada.
An ongoing condition of employment is the ability to maintain immigration status to legally remain and work in Canada which is supported by valid immigration documents.

Education, Qualifications and Certifications:
Completed a minimum of grade nine (9).
Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements:
Prior volunteer and/or work experience working directly with children in a day camp setting preferred.
Current, valid Standard First Aid and CPR Certification is an asset.
Have own computer with reliable internet connection, as file access and meetings may take place online.

Able to help support other camp staff with children’s individual behavioral needs.

Must comply with all Salvation Army policies, procedures, and associated legislation.

Undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The SalvationArmy, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry etc.).
Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
Compensation:
The target hiring range for this position is $17.20 to $20.01 with a maximum of $24.01.Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
