Database Administrator

Contract Duration: 6-month initial term followed by an 18-month renewal.

Requirements:

1. Post secondary certificate, diploma or degree in computer science or related field. A suitable combination of education and experience may be considered.
2. Minimum of five (5) years of experience creating and administrating complex databases in an enterprise environment.
3. Significant work experience in the technology field as a Database Administrator.
4. Strong technical proficiency, troubleshooting skills and operational knowledge of hosting technology in a corporate data center environment.
5. Extensive experience and operational knowledge of hosting technology in a corporate data centre environment.
6. Experience with RDBMS performance monitoring and tuning: closely monitoring performance; identifying problems and implementing solutions; while ensuring the database is running at optimum speed and efficiency.
7. Experience applying tools, techniques and processes related to change management, configuration management, capacity management and availability management.
8. Experience working with Windows and/or Linux operating systems.
9. Strong verbal communication skills with the ability to clearly present complex issues to internal and external stakeholders.
10. Strong analytical or problem solving skills.
11. Experience working with the following RDBMS': Microsoft MS SQL Server and Sybase ASE.
12. Ability to provide data migration support and data migration effort for complex multi-location sites.
13. Ability to adapt to change in dynamically evolving situations.
14. Ability to work in a team environment.
15. Excellent customer service skills.
16. Experience with T-SQL and MS RDBMS with experience in DB Triggers, Views and Stored Procedure Programming and database optimization.
17. Experience with MS SQL server and SAP Sybase ASE.
18. Excellent communication, collaboration, organizational and problem solving skills.

Responsibilities:

1. Monitors, troubleshoots and optimizes database performance.
2. Identifies and manages database bottlenecks.
3. Create, maintain and run scripts based on requirements.
4. Respond to incidents and problems.
5. Administers patches according to Vulnerability Management Standards.
6. Perform database backups and recovery.
7. Performs database capacity planning.
8. Tests and analyzes database performance.
9. Creates database installations on servers.
10. Oversees database operations.
11. Designs and implements database software, maintenance and support requirements.
12. Designs and develops interoperability testing of many components products.
13. Creates and maintains solution documentation.
14. Ensures consistent use of integration of application middleware components and database architecture.
15. Other duties as assigned.
