Marketing Statement

Metro Vancouver Transit Police ("Transit Police") is the leader in regional public transit policing, operating across 22 communities. It provides policing services to all modes of transit: Bus, SeaBus, SkyTrain, and West Coast Express. In partnership with cross-regional partners, Transit Police prevents crime and provides coordinated police services to transit users throughout the region. It also seeks to have a workforce that is responsive to and reflective of the many diverse communities is serves.

Responsibilities

PRIMARY PURPOSE

Responsible for gathering, processing, and analyzing data to provide actionable insights that help guide business decisions. Works with various departments to identify key metrics, improve processes and manage data, and contribute to the company’s overall data-driven strategy. The role designs and develops standard and ad-hoc reports including departmental scorecards/dashboards and executive presentations. This role also engages with various business stakeholders, collaborating with them to understand the business needs and objectives.

Key Accountabilities

Collects, organizes, and cleans data from various internal and external sources by identifying opportunities to automate data collection, cleaning and reporting processes for greater efficiency.

Provides consultative guidance to internal stakeholders and assists with identifying and scoping incoming analytics requests to working through analysis and proposing appropriate solutions.

Supports data management and database maintenance by ensuring data is stored securely and efficiently, making it accessible for future analysis. Writes and runs queries (using tools like SQL and PostgreSQL) to extract and manipulate data from databases for analysis.

Analyzes and processes large datasets to identify trends, patterns, and actionable insights using statistical tools and software (e.g., Excel, SQL, PostgreSQL, Python, R)

Creates reports, dashboards, executive presentations and visualizations to communicate findings effectively using visualization tools such as but not limited to Tableau and Power BI.

Collaborates with cross-functional teams to understand business needs and objectives of every department. Provides Business Leadership with insights, forecasts and analysis based on the data

Develops and maintains databases and data systems to ensure data accuracy and accessibility.

Performs data validation and quality checks to ensure data integrity by maintaining existing policies and creating standards, processes and controls over how data elements are setup, used, revised and maintained across the organization.

Presents data findings to stakeholders in a clear, understandable manner in support of planning and provides recommendations for business decisions based on data analysis and reports.

Keeps up with the latest trends, tools, and technologies in data analytics to continuously improve analysis techniques and outcomes. Maintains awareness of best practices, including processes and business intelligence tools, and finds opportunities for improvement of existing functionality. Liaises with technical stakeholders to support reporting tool enhancements and reporting solutions.

Performs complex various data analysis and reporting in support of labour relations strategies, including union related metrics such as overtime trends, pay and scheduling to inform collective bargaining and executive decision-making.

Qualifications

Education & Experience:

The competencies for this position would typically be acquired through a bachelor’s degree in data science, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related field plus 5 years of experience in an environment where logical/physical data modeling, data analysis techniques, data management and business analysis skills have been demonstrated.

Other Requirements

  • Proficiency in data analysis tools such as Excel, SQL, PostgreSQL and data visualization platforms such as Tableau, PowerBI.
  • Solid experience with statistical analysis and data processing software (Python, R, etc.).
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to work with large datasets.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical data to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities with great attention to detail.
  • Experience with machine learning algorithms or advanced statistical modeling.
  • Advanced knowledge of data warehousing and business intelligence concepts.
  • Experience with data visualization best practices and design principles.
  • Proven ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Other Information

Recruitment Process: An applicant will be required to demonstrate their suitability for this position by meeting the minimum level of qualifications and experience in order to be invited into the selection process. A standard interview format will be used including general, scenario and behavioural descriptive interview questions.

Work Schedule

37.5 hours per week.

This position offers the flexibility of working both on-site and home after the successful completion of the probationary period.

Rate of Pay

Grade: 06

Salary: $82,400 to $123,600 per annum
