Role Overview

As a Data Scientist within the Office of the CTO in the Dynamic Threat Defense group at McAfee, you will play a vital role in providing our customers with cutting-edge protection and peace of mind.

You will utilize your expertise in LLM (Large Language Models) and Generative AI to identify new opportunities for application in the personal security space and enhance McAfee’s threat protection capabilities. Additionally, you will leverage your data visualization and storytelling skills to present your research to audiences ranging from fellow data scientists to senior executives.

This position is located in Canada, preferably in Waterloo or Toronto. On-site presence may be required on an as-needed basis. We are considering only candidates within a commutable distance to these locations and are not offering relocation assistance at this time.

About The Role

1. Apply subject matter expertise in traditional ML, LLM, and Generative AI to develop machine learning solutions for digital security.
2. Use statistical and machine learning techniques to identify opportunities for improving protection capabilities, employing supervised and unsupervised models.
3. Perform data wrangling to clean data and build data pipelines for model monitoring and deployment.
4. Conduct data mining and exploration to uncover insights for data-driven decision-making.
5. Collaborate with stakeholders to leverage big data from various sources.
6. Utilize data visualization and storytelling to communicate research findings effectively, with data-backed recommendations.
7. Manage data science projects from conception to delivery, focusing on solving the original problem statement.

About You

• Experience with and understanding of LLMs and Generative AI.
• 5-7 years of experience building high-quality machine learning models.
• Expertise in fine-tuning LLMs and classification tasks.
• Master’s or PhD in Statistics, Data Science, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field.
• Proficiency with Python, PySpark, R, SQL, and cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, and Databricks.
• Self-motivated and comfortable working remotely with an international team.
• Strong problem-solving skills applicable to data wrangling, analysis, visualization, modeling, deployment, and monitoring.
