Job summary

The Role

We are seeking a versatile Data Scientist / Engineer for a full-time, permanent position. The role involves designing, building, and maintaining data pipelines that support our energy analysis models.

You will collaborate with analysts and energy engineers to ensure data quality and availability, supporting the development of accurate energy models.

Main responsibilities include:
  1. Designing, developing, and maintaining scalable data pipelines from diverse sources
  2. Collaborating to understand data requirements and ensure data reliability
  3. Preprocessing data to optimize model performance
  4. Normalizing results and storing in databases for visualization
  5. Implementing data validation and cleaning procedures
  6. Monitoring pipeline performance and troubleshooting issues
  7. Documenting data processes and sources
  8. Staying current with emerging data science and engineering technologies
  9. Managing data infrastructure on cloud platforms
  10. Implementing data security measures in collaboration with cybersecurity team

Other tasks may be assigned based on experience.

Candidate Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science, Data Science, Data Engineering, or related field
  • 3+ years of experience in data science/engineering, preferably in energy/utilities
  • Proficiency in Python and R
  • Knowledge of SQL, relational (MySQL, PostgreSQL) and NoSQL databases (MongoDB, Cassandra)
  • Experience with cloud platforms (Azure, Redshift, BigQuery, Databricks)
  • Knowledge of data warehousing, security best practices, statistical analysis, predictive modeling, machine learning, and data mining
  • Experience with big data tools (Hadoop, Spark, Kafka) and ETL frameworks (Airflow, Talend) is advantageous
  • Legal eligibility to work in Canada and valid SIN required

The salary range is $85,000 to $110,000, flexible based on experience. Preferred locations are Ottawa, Toronto, or Vancouver, but other Canadian locations will be considered.
