Job summary

Desjardins Group in Canada seeks a senior Data Scientist to lead advanced analytics initiatives and model development projects aligned with business needs. You will guide stakeholders, mine data from multiple sources, and build high-impact predictive models and segmentations.

The role requires deep statistical and ML expertise, strong communication skills, and the ability to influence decision-makers with clear data-driven insights.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Minimum six years of relevant experience.
  • Academic specialization in a quantitative field (Certificate, Master's, or PhD).
  • Knowledge of French is required for positions in Quebec.
  • Advanced proficiency of English due to duties with English-speaking partners.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee data mining, evaluation, feature engineering, quality inspection and adjustment of available data, and the selection of predictors for a wide range of complex predictive modeling mandates.
  • Analyze client and partner business needs, generate hypotheses, and lead mandates with coordination during rollout.
  • Use advanced statistical, machine learning and AI methods to develop and optimize models and segmentations.
  • Create programming to prepare and mine data, and develop, evaluate, support, roll out and manage complex models.
  • Prepare easy-to-understand presentations and data visualizations to support business decisions.
  • Draft guidelines and data modelling methods, ensure specs for model performance, and prepare training.

Job description

As a data scientist, you provide the data needed to make business decisions, develop solutions and services adapted to business issues and understand member and client behaviour. You lead internal and external stakeholders in model development projects adapted to business needs and in complex strategic interventions in advanced analytics and artificial intelligence. Your initiatives require extensive, in-depth knowledge of your field. You help solve highly operationally and conceptually complex business problems using your ability to mine multiple data sources, your analytical skills and your in-depth, comprehensive understanding of the business line and the organization. You rely on your solid understanding of the various methods to make recommendations. You serve as an expert advisor and subject matter expert on data use for stakeholders, and as a resource person and coach for decision-making bodies. You interact with many stakeholders working in a wide range of fields to understand and communicate issues and influence decision-making.

  • Create the programming needed to prepare and mine data, and develop, evaluate, support, roll out and manage highly complex models
  • Prepare easy-to-understand presentations and data visualizations to support the sector's business decisions when presented to management for consideration
  • Draft guidelines and data modelling methods ensure specifications for optimal model performance are met, help develop documentation, and prepare and deliver training
  • Identify opportunities to improve rules and systems, anticipate underlying impacts of changes and make enhancements to data management tools
