About the role :

Are you passionate about revolutionizing seismic data analysis and automation? We are looking for a Data Scientist with a background in Seismology to join our Science & Development team. In this exciting role, you will lead the research, prototyping, and development of innovative automated tools and methods that drive real-time seismicity monitoring and event detection. Your work will directly impact industries such as O&G, mining, CCS, and geothermal; offering you the opportunity to shape cutting-edge solutions. Collaborating with Operations, Sales, and Business Development teams, you’ll ensure our tools and methods meet real-world operational needs, enhancing both quality and scalability.

A day in the life :

Research, prototype, and develop innovative tools for automating real-time seismic monitoring, creating faster, smarter systems for seismic event detection.

Conduct advanced statistical analysis of seismic data, applying automation to uncover valuable insights while minimizing manual intervention and delivering advanced data products.

Drive the development of scalable automated seismic detection systems, seamlessly integrating with operational teams for maximum efficiency.

Promote excellence and best practices in software architecture and development.

Collaborate with software engineers and seismologists to build scalable, production-grade systems for on-prem and cloud-based processing.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure our solutions align with real-world needs and operational requirements.

Contribute to industry thought leadership by publishing findings and presenting at conferences.

What you bring to the team :

Master’s or PhD in Geophysics, Data Science, Statistics, or a related field with 5+ years of industrial experience.

Experience working with large-scale seismic data, including real-time systems and batch processing pipelines.

Demonstrated ability to work across multidisciplinary teams and deliver technically sound, well-documented solutions.

Strong proficiency in Python for developing and automating seismic workflows and systems.

Deep experience in advanced statistical analysis and the automation of processing systems.

Strong foundation in inverse theory, numerical optimization, and parameter estimation.

Excellent communication skills with the ability to distill complex data analyses into clear, actionable insights for diverse stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications :

Familiarity with interferometry or tomography methods.

Knowledge of moment tensor inversion, seismic risk modeling, the double-differencing relocation algorithm, and real-time automation technologies.

Expertise in DAS data processing, induced seismicity, and signal processing.

Familiarity with cloud-based infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and containerized workflows (Docker, Kubernetes).

Experience of working on a shared codebase through Github or other similar platforms.

Strong publication record or contributions to open-source seismology / data science tools.
