About the role

Join the Data Acquisition Team, where we lead third party data acquisition activities by ensuring the proper data is acquired, centrally stored, and governed to support commercial activities, administer housing programs, and conduct housing research and analysis to accelerate housing affordability. By ensuring the data acquired meets usage requirements and is properly structured and governed, you will help the organization realize the full value of its data assets and capabilities, ensuring safe, effective, and efficient sharing of data across CMHC.

Data needs of the organization evolve over time, especially as research initiatives change, regulatory frameworks are updated, and new housing programs are introduced. Currently, this role will be working on establishing a roadmap for Indigenous data including partnership and data sharing agreements. In addition, this role will be feeding into the maturing of key data acquisition and ingestion related capabilities.

This is a temporary position of a fixed duration until March 2027.

What you’ll do :

  • Design comprehensive data acquisition strategies that align with organizational objectives and ensure consistent and accurate data across all platforms.
  • Work closely with business units to collect data needs and establish partnerships / agreements to advance the acquisition of data to meet these needs.
  • Design data structures that integrate multiple data sets to meet user needs.
  • Ensure data is centrally stored in a way that is aligned with established data governance frameworks.
  • Conduct regular data quality monitoring, identify areas for improvement, and produce detailed reports for stakeholder review.
  • Work closely with IT, analytics, and business units to integrate data governance practices into daily operations and project implementations.
  • Continuously cultivate and maintain relationships with data providers to advance data acquisition objectives.

What you should have :

  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • A minimum of seven (7) years of experience in data quality management, data governance, or a related field.
  • Experience in applying data governance frameworks against data sets.
  • Knowledge of data privacy laws and regulations, such as the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across various departments and levels within the organization.
  • Experience in contracting and procurement (with a focus on data).
  • Experience with data governance and management tools (e.g. Collibra and / or Informatica).

It would be great if you also had :

  • Experience working with Climate Data.
  • Experience collaborating with National Indigenous Organizations.
  • A certification in data management or data quality (e.g., DAMA DMBOK, CDMP).
