Position: Data Engineer, Level 18

Compensation Details :

  • Data Engineer 18 : Salaries typically range from $94,664 to $126,218 annually, based on qualifications and experiences plus a performance-based incentive.

Location:

  • Export Development Canada operates in a hybrid work environment, currently requiring employees to work in the office 2 days per week. (subject to change)
  • This role can be performed from EDC’s headquarters in Ottawa or from one of our Community Hubs located in Toronto, Mississauga, Montreal, Brossard, or Laval.

  • The Digital & Technology Solutions (DTS) group under the leadership of the Chief Information Officer was established in 2023 with the mission of empowering our customers and colleagues to take on the world, by seamlessly delivering secure and reliable digital experiences. Digital & Technology Solutions has set out to achieve the following objectives for EDC:
    • Define, execute, and sustain the integrated technology target state, target data model and technology operations required to enable EDC’s 2030 business transformation.
    • Establish and manage the rolling 3 Year Digital Roadmap that sequences the technology outcomes required to achieve the technology target state and facilitate its execution across all domains in the organization.
    • Keep pace with industry trends and emerging technologies, ensuring EDC has access to the digital technology tools it needs to stay relevant in the market and grow Canadian global trade.
    • Lead and ensure integrated digital, data, infrastructure, and cybersecurity implementations to create excellent customer, user, and employee experiences.
  • The Data Engineering Services team at EDC is looking for a seasoned professional with a proven track record in delivering and implementing data solutions. As a Data Engineer, you will collaborate closely with stakeholders to drive our Data & Analytics strategy forward.
  • In this role, you will be responsible for designing and maintaining robust data pipelines on EDC’s cutting-edge data platform, ensuring our stakeholders' needs are met efficiently. Beyond building pipelines, you will develop well-managed, governed, secure, and resilient data processes. You will be an integral part of the team that is pioneering the Data Engineering practice at EDC, utilizing the latest modern data platform technologies.

What you will be doing:

  • Develop and Maintain Data Pipelines : Design, implement, and manage robust data pipelines on EDC’s modern data platform to ensure efficient data delivery.
  • Data Governance and Security : Develop well-managed, governed, secure, and resilient data processes to maintain data integrity and security.
  • Software Development and Maintenance : Analyze, identify, and implement modifications and improvements to existing software, as well as develop new applications to meet customer requirements.
  • Fault Diagnosis and Correction : Design and plan fault isolation and resolution for complex challenges to promptly address and limit issues.
  • Data Management : Manage key aspects of the data management system, including developing or operating essential elements of the system.
  • Data-Driven Product Improvement : Develop data-driven analyses to identify new opportunities for product and service improvement, ensuring consistency across digital products, services, and channels.
  • Quality Assurance Testing : Validate and interpret complex test data to evaluate and recommend the suitability of nonstandard materials or components.
  • Technical Recommendations : Discuss and recommend innovative technical developments to improve software quality and supporting infrastructure to better meet users’ needs.
  • Software Roadmap : Define and maintain a roadmap to facilitate software development, ensuring development work is prioritized in line with business requirements.

What we are looking for:

  • Education: Completed an Undergraduate Degree in Management Information Systems, Computer Science or Engineering, Commerce, Business, or related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 7 years’ experience in designing and building data pipelines and automated data frameworks.
  • Data Pipeline and Processing Expertise : Proven ability to design, build, and implement batch and real-time data pipelines, with proficiency in modern data processing technologies like Spark and Hive.
  • Streaming Data Architecture : Experience with real-time streaming data technologies such as Spark Streaming, Kafka, Flink, and Storm.
  • Database Technologies : Skilled in working with both relational and non-relational databases, including SQL Server, Synapse, Oracle, Cassandra, MongoDB, CosmosDB, and HBase.
  • Cloud Data Platforms : Expertise in cloud data platform technologies such as Azure Data Lake Store, Azure Databricks, Azure Synapse, and Azure EventHub.
  • Programming Languages : Proficient in programming with Spark using languages like Scala, Java, and/or Python.
  • Fabric Design and Development: Experience in the design and development of data solutions using Fabric technologies.
  • API Development in Microsoft Environments: Experience in designing and developing APIs, particularly within Microsoft environments using Function Apps.
  • Collaborative and Agile Skills : Proven ability to collaborate with stakeholders, understanding of agile development methods, and knowledge of Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery.
