Job description

What is it like to be a senior Data Engineer at Northbridge Financial?

The Data Engineer supports the design and development of ETL/ELT processes that extract and manipulate data from complex sources to populate the Enterprise Data Warehouse, including new and legacy sources transitioning from legacy reporting environments.

If you are great at:

  • Interfacing with business systems analysts, solution designers, data architects, and stakeholders to understand business requirements.
  • Analyzing and profiling source data and understanding relationships between data sources.
  • Parsing unstructured and semi-structured data such as JSON and XML.
  • Designing and developing mappings and workflows to load data onto Data Marts.
  • Performance tuning ETL/ELT mappings and queries.
  • Designing and developing ETL/ELT pipelines for CI/CD.
  • Communicating clearly and professionally across verbal, email, and documentation channels.
  • Developing, testing, and documenting ETL/ELT solutions in a complex data warehouse environment.
  • Using tools like Microsoft SQL Server 2012, Snowflake, SSIS, ADF, DBT, Control-M, and version control systems like TFS or Azure GIT.
  • Applying Agile/Scrum methodologies.
  • Adhering to development standards, naming conventions, and best practices.
  • Performing database modifications as required.
  • Providing production support and on-call assistance for data warehouses.

If you have:

  • A post-secondary degree in Math, Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent work experience.
  • 4-6 years of IT experience.
  • At least 3 years of experience in ETL design and development within a BI environment.
  • Knowledge of Property and Casualty industry, technologies, and products.
