Job summary

Wattpad, a leading global webnovel platform and part of WEBTOON Entertainment, is hiring a Data Engineer in Toronto on a 12‑month fixed‑term contract to backfill maternity leave. You will dive into data pipelines, design scalable infrastructure, and partner with data scientists, analysts, and engineers to enable data‑driven decision making.

The role involves building ETL pipelines, working with AWS services, Redshift, Kafka, and Airflow, and writing Python services.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of data engineering experience.
• Proficient in Python and PySpark.
• Strong database fundamentals and software engineering principles.
• Knowledge of Data Contracts and API-driven data products.
• Experience with Spark, Airflow, AWS EMR/Glue/Redshift and related tools.
• Experience with batch processing and streaming systems.
• Exposure to Kafka or similar queuing technologies.
• Analytical mindset with strong attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate with data scientists, data analysts, software engineers and product managers to design and evolve our existing architecture, improving the reliability and performance of our data infrastructure.
• Build, maintain and scale our ETL pipelines to help power data science, data products and analytical needs.
• Design, build, and maintain data infrastructure systems such as AWS DMS, HBase, EMR, Redshift, S3, Kafka, Airflow while ensuring scalability, reliability, and security.
• Write new tools, services, and platforms in Python.
• Research new technologies to solve tomorrow’s data infrastructure needs.
• Advocate for the adoption of tools in the data engineering team.
