Data Control / Meter Reading Clerk (Temporary Full Time for Approximately 7 months)

Hours of Work:35 Hours per week

Initial location: Kitchener City Hall

Overview

This position rotates between Data Control and Meter Reading functions within our team. The Data Control/Meter Reading Clerk is responsible for monitoring read file transfers and work completed by our meter reading contractor based on the billing schedule. This position will also investigate and resolve implausible meter reads. This position is also responsible foranalyzingand resolving various billing errors/issues including equal payment plan issues, calculating consumption due to equipment failure, monitoring incomplete service orders; adjusting accounts as required and resolve all meter reading discrepancies.

Responsibilities

  • Send meter read files daily to contract meter readers for scheduling in order to meet billing schedule deadlines. Receive and upload completed meter reading files and reports daily.
  • Review meter reading issues/problems as reported by meter readers and take appropriate action and connecting with customers to arrange meter reading appointments.
  • Process meter read complaints; forward to contract company and follow up as required.
  • Administrative duties including the following: maintain control of key inventory, update meter reader instructions, report on inoperative or damaged meters, produce/send letters to customers, update and verify payroll information for meter readers, arrange for repair/maintenance of meter reading equipment.
  • Research, analyze account history and calculate consumption for stopped meters and tampered meters.
  • Track, monitor, calculate adjustment amounts, and respond to customers regarding Water Leak Adjustment requests.
  • Review and complete service orders for large commercial meter sets.
  • Calculate consumption for large commercial meters as requested by Gas Technician
  • Adjust equal payment plan accounts as required.
  • Research and prepare responses to customers for information requests, regarding billing/payments for utilities.
  • Analyze and resolve various exceptions generated by meter read uploads such as high, low, zero consumption, blocked contracts, service orders not complete, etc.
  • Monitor list of accounts not billing; investigate and resolve.
  • Create adjustments to correct billing errors.
  • Monitor service orders which are incomplete; complete and adjust account as required.
  • Monitor move service orders not completed, identifying and resolving gaps.
  • Complete route sequencing as required.
  • Function as Revenue resource for questions pertaining to meter reading issues, billing adjustments, etc.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum Grade 12 diploma and up to one-year job-related post-secondary education.
  • Minimum of 1-year related experience.
  • Experience with processing transactions in a large enterprise level computer application system such as SAP ISU.
  • Good understanding of computer technology and the ability to work effectively with various software packages.
  • Proficient keyboard skills with a high degree of accuracy and speed.
  • Excellent mathematical skills and must be able to pass a related test.
  • Strong computer skills in the use of Excel, Word, and Outlook
  • Able to demonstrate solid problem-solving skills.
  • Superior analytical and organizational skills and be detail oriented.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a busy environment and be able to meet tight deadlines daily.
  • Good communications skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to liaise between co-workers, the customers and contract meter readers in a professional manner.
  • Ability to support and project values compatible with the organization.
  • Reliable with a good attitude and employment record.
