Job description

Role:

Responsible for the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of communication distribution systems and other signal systems. These systems include the physical infrastructure that supports voice, video, and data transmission within industrial, commercial, and institutional environments.

Responsibilities and Duties

• Interpret and verify work orders, specifications, drawings, schematics, and special requirements.
• Perform site inspections and assess installation requirements.
• Assemble and prepare all required tools, materials, and equipment.
• Create and install cable pathways.
• Install cable supports and related infrastructure.
• Install, fish, dress, cross-connect, and terminate unshielded twisted pair (UTP), coaxial, and fibre optic cabling.
• Install and configure Wi‑Fi (802.11b/g/n) networks.
• Test, inspect, troubleshoot, and verify completed installations.
• Liaise with customers, store managers, and employees to explain, coordinate, and schedule network cabling installations.
• Complete and submit work logs, service reports, and other required documentation.

Occupational Requirements

Technical Requirements

• Familiarity with retail environments and point-of-sale (POS) systems is considered an asset.
• Familiarity with network equipment, including routers, switches, desktop computers, printers, and related devices, is considered an asset.
• Must possess a valid and unexpired Class G driver's licence and be able to provide a clean driver's abstract upon hire and periodically throughout employment.
• Must have basic computer skills and demonstrate strong written communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Excel, and Outlook is considered an asset.
• Experience operating scissor lifts is considered an asset. Training and certification will be provided as required.

Personal Requirements

• Ability to travel to customer sites on short notice and work away from home for extended periods, including travel across Canada as required.
• Must have access to a reliable personal vehicle and be able to independently travel to and from job sites.
• Ability to work rotating day and night shifts.
• Strong communication, organizational, and customer service skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to adapt to changing work environments, schedules, and customer requirements.
