The role: * Please note - this is a 4 month Co-Op opportunity*

The Data and Artificial Intelligence Student is a dynamic role responsible for delivering data-driven insights to Meridian’s departments. This position involves a wide range of data tasks including data analysis, business intelligence, data science, and data engineering.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage internal stakeholders to curate high quality, analytics-ready datasets
  • Assist in building and evaluating predictive models and statistical analyses
  • Assist in designing, testing, and refining generative AI agents for internal data workflows
  • Participate in evaluating machine learning models and AI prototypes
  • Assist in reviewing AI use cases for alignment with data governance and ethical AI principles
  • Build dynamic reports for business intelligence
  • Develop dashboards and visualizations to communicate findings
  • Participate in team meetings, ideation sessions, and knowledge-sharing activities

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s program in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field.
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Analytical and problem-solving abilities, along with research skills to achieve results.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to quickly prioritize and effectively handle critical issues as they arise or manage multiple competing priorities.
  • A creative approach to problem-solving and the ability to think outside the box.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to work well in a dynamic environment.
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language for data analysis (e.g. R, Python).
  • Familiarity with SQL and data querying techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze structured and unstructured data to uncover trends, patterns, and insights.
  • Experience working with datasets including open data sources, competitions, or class assignments.

Who is this position for? This opportunity is ideal for curious, analytical, and motivated individuals looking to gain hands-on experience in turning data into insights. The individual will work with the Enterprise Analytics and Data team to provide data solutions across the organization.

Salary Range: CAD $25- 30/hr

Compensation for this role is based on a combination of skills, experience, and internal equity. Candidates with stronger alignment to the role’s requirements may be placed higher within the range. Your recruiter will share more information about our total rewards package during the hiring process.

Office Location: Toronto Corporate Office or St. Catharines office as needed. This is a hybrid work opportunity.

Meridian has a remote work policy that allows flexibility for employees to work remotely but also requires a minimum of one day per week in the office for purposeful meetings to collaborate, innovate and build effective relationships with your team, your colleagues and your leader which is important to us.
