Role: Data Analytics Specialist -- MUST HAVE experience within Utilities industry domain

Contract Duration: 12 months (renewable for an additional 12 months)

Location: Hybrid (2 days per week at Vaughan office)

Rate: Negotiable

Client and Role Description

Our client is a Large Scale Utilities Provider (Municipal), seeking a Data Analytics Specialist with experience in the utilities industry to join their team. The Data Analytics Specialist will serve as a strategic leader and technical expert within the Grid Analytics and Data Modernization team, playing a key role in transforming how data is used to support system planning, asset strategy, and operations across the Asset Strategy & Operations (ASO) division. This role is designed for experienced professionals who thrive at the intersection of analytics, innovation, and utility operations. The successful candidate will be instrumental in driving initiatives that introduce advanced tools, frameworks, and data-driven decision-making across the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, optimize, and maintain robust scripts using Python, R, and SQL for automated data extraction, transformation, and analysis.
  • Lead data validation and quality assurance efforts, ensuring consistency, accuracy, and integrity of critical operational data.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external vendors to define test requirements and implement automated validation protocols.
  • Design and execute automated test scripts for assessing the performance and reliability of grid analytics tools and software platforms.
  • Champion the deployment and integration of advanced analytics systems, including Integrated Network Management (INM), Automated Interconnections, and dynamic system-wide mapping tools (e.g., Hosting Capacity, Asset Utilization, Inspection Mapping).
  • Guide the creation of dashboards, reports, and data visualizations that deliver actionable insights to diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Drive continuous improvement of data management workflows, promoting best practices, standards, and scalability.
  • Participate in and help lead cross-functional teams supporting major grid modernization and transformation projects.
  • Prepare technical documentation including user stories, pseudo-code, data flow diagrams, and system/network architecture visuals to support stakeholder communication and system understanding.
  • Present findings, recommendations, and system demonstrations to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Engineering (Electrical preferred), or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
  • Strong programming proficiency in Python, R, and SQL.
  • Expertise in database management and data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, Alteryx).
  • Demonstrated experience with data architecture and automation frameworks.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills with an ability to translate complex technical concepts for varied audiences.
  • Self-starter with a demonstrated ability to lead projects and work collaboratively within cross-functional teams.
  • Eagerness to learn and apply emerging technologies to real-world grid challenges.
  • Ability to quickly grasp fundamental concepts of electrical distribution systems and utility operations, particularly as they pertain to planning and performance.
