Job summary

Scotiabank is seeking a Data Analyst - Global Compliance Data Analytics (Contract) in Toronto, Ontario. You will collaborate with business analysts, data scientists and data engineers to support governance and analytics in Compliance.

You will identify data elements, validate data flows, and build dashboards to showcase insights for governance, modeling and reporting. Strong SQL and visualization tool experience (Power BI/Tableau) and familiarity with data governance concepts are required.

Qualifications

  • University degree in a STEM field or related area.
  • Hands-on programming experience with SQL.
  • Experience with data governance concepts (CDEs, data lineage, metadata).
  • Experience with data visualization tools (Power BI or Tableau).
  • Familiarity with data profiling, data quality rules, data flows and ETL concepts.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and register data elements, CDEs, and source/target systems.
  • Document Data Flow Diagrams and Data Lineage; support STM mapping.
  • Create data pipelines and dashboards to share insights with the business.
  • Plan discussions with business clients to gather data needs for governance and analytics.
  • Ensure data quality reporting and data related documentation are up to date.

Job description

Title: Data Analyst - Global Compliance Data Analytics (Contract)

Purpose

The Data Analyst will contribute to the overall success of our team and work closely with business analysts, data scientists and data engineers to address business opportunities. The Data Analyst will have to understand the business needs and requirements to support and enhance our governance and analytics function. The individual has a passion for data, governance, analytics, and crafting business solutions within Compliance.

What You'll Do

  • Contributes to the identification and registration of data elements, critical data elements (CDEs) and associated source/target systems.
  • Supports the documentation and validation of Data Flow Diagrams and Data Lineage or Source-To-Target Mapping (STM).
  • Contributes to the definition of business and technical Data Quality rules for the CDEs.
  • Executes data profiling, data quality assessment, issue root cause analysis, investigation and remediation.
  • Conducts various data testing: Quality Assurance Testing (QAT), Business Acceptance Testing (BAT) and PIV (Post Implementation Validation).
  • Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
  • Provides technical and analytical expertise in designing and implementing data pipelines.
  • Plans and facilitate discussions with business clients to gather business, data source requirements, and use cases to support Data Governance, Advanced Analytics and Modeling.
  • Creates dashboards to share data insights with the business, builds data features used for governance, modeling, reporting and advanced analytics.
  • Builds and maintains proper data related documentation (e.g. data quality reporting), data lineage, source to target mapping, and extract-transform-load (ETL) processes.
  • Maintains a good understanding of the Bank's business strategies, policies, risk management and IT processes and disciplines.
  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, and conduct risk.
  • Champions a high-performance environment and contributes to an inclusive work environment.

What You Bring

  • University degree and/or college diploma in relevant STEM discipline (Computer Sciences, Electrical/ Computer/ Software Engineering, Mathematics), Economics, Finance or any related field.
  • Familiarity of data governance / management and data quality concepts and processes such as Critical Data Elements (CDEs), Authoritative Data Sources, Master and Reference Data, Data Lineage, Metadata, Data Flows, Data Issues Management, etc.
  • 2+ years of experience in cleaning, transforming and visualizing data sets working from various data formats (e.g., unstructured logs, XML, JSON, flat files).
  • Have hands‑on programming experience and advanced knowledge of SQL.
  • Experience with agile methodologies, implementing and managing visualization tools such as Power BI, or Tableau.
  • Excellent communication skills, with a strong customer-focused.
  • Experience with statistical analysis and machine learning with common machine learning libraries in R, Matlab and/or Python.
  • Familiarity with Collibra (or similar data governance tools) is considered an asset.
